I have been meaning to make this thread here with pictures from my summer holiday in Greece, for over a month. But I realized that nearnly all my photos were of me... I am not always a big fan of pictures of myself. I have however now chosen and found photos I like.

Let's begin the show.

Naxos,

marble mines. When I saw this I thought it was Emerald City from the Great Wizard of Oz.

Kouros. That is a greek word for a certain kind of a big statue. That one was made 6000-7000 b.C.

Portara. These are the ruins of Appolon's temple. Venician ruined it to make the castle Kastro, that forms old Xora. Portare the big upright thing is the gate to the temple.

Cow butts. The 8 year old boy that I was travelling with thought this was extremely funny.

Another Kouros. My mom is in one of the pictures so you can see the size difference and see how huge one Kouros is. To think that these ancient people transfered these to other island erected them there.

Crete
I also went to Crete. One day I went and "visited" King of Crete in is palace in Knossos. He has a connection to Naxos, or lets say his daughter Ariadne does. The king Minos had a son that had been murdered in Athens so wanted a yearly pay from Athenias. 7 Athenias were to be sacrificied to be eaten by the Minotaur, Minos' man-eating beast. One year in the group of 7 was a man called Theseus. Minos' daughter happened to fall in love with Theseus and taught him how to get out of the maze in which the Minotaur was tied up in. Ariadne and Theseus fled Crete and went to Naxos where he abandoned Ariadne on a cliff while she was sleeping.

Anyhow, the palace is all from the Minoan period 2600-1400 b.C although it is not still standing, it is just ruins but some parts are still up.

These frescas are original.

These are not original, these are a remake. Although they are a bit of antiques. They were built in the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th.
