I looked up Shania Twain-Don't Shoot The Messenger on a search engine and sure enough it picked up some "OFFICIAL" UK news.
Her new single ''Don't Shoot The Messenger'' is to be released in the UK on November 13th, and her new album ''So Happy'' is to be released shortly after on November 20th.
This is great news for us Shania fans.

I know but there's been varations of this rumor for the past couple of months! Before, her new album was called "High"! LOL! Kinda like "UP!"!:funny:
I think people are screwing w/us! We'll just have to wait for an OFFICIAL announcement from Mercury/QPrime/Shania. :smirk:

I have been looking back on the site, back in 02' and they said "UP!" was going to be released Nov. 13, in the beginning of Sept. Then in Late October early Nov. they changed the date to Nov 20, so maybe it could possibly be true, but nothings official until the day comes.

Well there is alot going around that Shania's next single will be "Don't Shoot The Messange"(well in the U.K.), well lets say there is a truth to it. Without hearing the song does the title catch your eye, because IMO it does. And also do you think it would be an upbeat or a slow song.But we might never know, i just hope there is some truth to a new album in November.

I'll believe it only when I'll hear something official about it. Of course seeing all those radios having "don't shoot the messenger" as the next single makes me quite excited, but not too much. If it's true, I think it'll be an upbeat song ;)

I love that title...I can just imagine that she'd speak the title part like TDIMM. Like "Hey....don't shoot the messenger!", like in a mad-that-you're-attacking-me-when-I'm-not-the-one-who-did-you-wrong kinda way ;)...

Btw, it could still happen.. I remember [the vid for] Party For Two being shot on August 28 (2004) and it came out in November..

It would be nice if it was September My birthday is in September.
But I think it will be more like late November or December. Just it time for parents to buy it for the young fans for Christmas. And we can buy it for our friends or ourselves for Christmas.

When we know something is correct and confirmed we'll say about a new single, too early to talk about that, but perhaps if it were close a new CD this would be the correct date to start with the rumours about a new single;)

I agree with you Jenny...November seems to be a favourite month for Shania to release new material. Whenever it happens, sounds like it'll be another Shania song/album that we've come to expect...fun, upbeat. Can hardly wait for an official announcement.

I wouldn't too psyched, because if radio people want to be up to date, they need to hold on to rumours, which means they would be checking fans' message boards regularly...
For some reason, "Don't Shoot The Messenger" sounds like a rather slow song to me, somewhat Katie Melua style, but I guess we'll have to wait...
You know, there must be some truth in it. "Don't Shoot The Messenger" is like mentioned everywhere! And the titel sounds genuine and Shania!

Nov. 13th the single will be released as a retail single in the U.K. and should be released to radio alot sooner.
I e-mailed Universal Sweden yesterday to see if they had any information about Shania. She replied me already. She said "We have no information about Shania releasing a single or an album this year"..
Who knows, maybe it's not planned to be released in Sweden.. :(
Cause shouldn't they know if something was planned to be released in three months?

I wouldn't worry too much about that reply. Maybe they simply can't tell... no one could tell us anything either when rumours about up started.
And when the album is released it will be in Sweden too. I don't see why not. All her other albums have been released there haven't they? And she stopped in Sweden too on her last tour.

Well they kinda have too, if the press release came before rumors there might be a little problem (LOL).
But yea, usually the press will wait till the hype gets really high and release something official then the album will sell more, but see with Shania she don't need the hype she could hide fot 10 years and release a new CD without hype and it would still outsell more than most current artist IMO.

That just gave me a thought. You remember that Shania had plans for a Christmas album (Ka-Ching was started as a Christmas song but ended up being what it is now). Although I can't quite find a way to fit "Don't Shoot The Messenger" in there, who knows... the date and the album title would match it.

Maybe she wants to release it when there aren`t many other concurrents because she knows that she has millions of fans all over the world. :) And many musicians release their singles(retail) in U.K. just one week before the album release. That just gave me a thought. You remember that Shania had plans for a Christmas album (Ka-Ching was started as a Christmas song but ended up being what it is now). Although I can't quite find a way to fit "Don't Shoot The Messenger" in there, who knows... the date and the album title would match it.
theTWAINfan, I hope she will not have a Christmas album. Maybe she wants to release it when there aren`t many other concurrents because she knows that she has millions of fans all over the world. :) And many musicians release their singles(retail) in U.K. just one week before the album release. Maybe this single will be available for downloud on i-tunes? :)

No, I have no knowledge of what lies ahead. Only faith, that it's going to be as good... - or, more likely: the best she's ever done.
I've been on several discussion boards, for quite a few artists & when an artist doesn't give out that much information about an upcoming release in advance, is when the fans' imaginations goes into gallop mode & the minds begin to storm.
And some results have been simply amazing.
You begin with minor hints, you've gathered over the years... what's been said about influences, old favorites, etc.
Then you look at the back catalogue, what's been done so far... and where do you go from there... and what position will the new album possibly take..?
Then, what kind of statement would an artist want to make with an album title..? Has it been used before..? One important thing, is to be recognizable, but not to seem too repetitive... or, - turn it completely around...
:D - heh.
...I think it would be amusing in the extreme, if Shania would release her next (4th) album in the same fashion as “the biggest band in the world” did with their 4th album in November... 35 years ago... "in order to see if the music could sell itself."

Today I went to the local eletronic CD Store/TV/Computer Store, ( ie best buy and radio shack in the USA ) I live in a town of 20000, so you will understand, I went and asked the manager to look this up, My boss recommeded me to go there, He looked up the single Dont Shot the Messenger and So Happy, in the Ordering and System in which all UK Cds store use there it was Shania Twain, meaning that it is in the system and I put my order in and they ordered a few more extra, It is confirmed by Universal/Mercury but there website dont show anything yet.. but it is in the system and he has been in business for 20 years and He enlighted me to the fact it is coming!!!

Well we possibly know the name of the CD, but still have not had much of a release date other than Nov. 20 (Nov 21st US). I guesse time will only tell. Until then we have to wait patiently, which is starting to get harder to do.
Yes, hearing little tidbits and rumours gets everyone excited, it would be very hard for many to go back to patient waiting if the album wasn't released this year.
BTW: I personally would hope that So Happy won't be the real album title. How would we shorten it, SO? :funny:

As much as I think November 20 (Nov. 21 in North America) is a possible, legit, release date. I don't think the album title "So Happy" is real. To me, it just sounds like a made-up title that somehow got thrown into the mainstream as fact. "So Happy" sounds too much like "Up!" The two titles basically say the same thing. "So Happy" definitely sounds like a title Shania would use, but I think that simply because it's so similar to "Up!" she would not use that title to give the album its own identity.
But I really hope November 20 is the real date. Recently, December is being "ignored" by many major artists for a release date because it gives an album only a very, very short time to sell strong before the Christmas season ends. And in January, album sales always plumet to very, very small numbers. And major artists never release an album during January to March, because album sales stay low and people just don't seem to buy CDs during that time.
And also, a major artist needs time to release a single. And seeing has how singles almost never come out during November/December because most radio stations are more concerned with adding new Christmas music, rather than new singles to their playlists, a single from someone like Shania wouldn't come out until late January or February at the earliest. And then the single would need about 8 weeks at least to get radio plays before the album came out. Because of low sales during January-March and artists needing time to get radio singles playing, its rare that a major album gets released anytime before late April or May in any given year.
I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if Shania doesn't release an album by the end of November, we likely won't see the album (even if it's already finished), until Spring 2007 (April/May). So, I'm hoping beyond hope that the album comes out in November becuase I don't think that I can wait that long!! LOL! I can't believe it's been 4 years since "Up!" came out. I need an album of all-new material really badly!!

Well i get where you are coming from but is is still possible for Shania's album to be released early next year January -March, yeas sales are kinda low but than again Shania released "the Woman In Me" in febuary of 1995 and didn't tour and has sold over 12 Millon copies i nthe US, so it is still very possible for an early album next year if not in November. And yeas "So Happy" does sound like a Shania title and it does sound alot like UP! but who really knows, nobody but Shania and Mutt.

So Happy doesn't sound so weird to me... But "Don't Shoot The Messenger" does...
Elton John has a song called "Don't Shoot Me, I Am Just a Piano Player!" So THAT'S weird...

About being free.. Shania has mentioned a couple of times last year she's now at a point where she has proven herself, where she can record covers, where she has no more presure, etc. etc. Basically saying that's she's "free". :) So yeah, IMO it's in line with what she has said earler on..

hmm... I thought she voiced some of those comments already after COO - before Üp!

I have to agree with alot said in the last couple post's. "So Happy" does sound alot like UP! an makes it unbelieveable as far as a new album but i still think we may be getting new music soon. And the title of the album can always change too as so can the title of the first track.
yep... "So Happy" sounds an aweful lot like "UP!" but imagine it is really the new album's title... I donno it doesn't seem that awekward to me though :uhh:

There is a risk in an album title like "So Happy". Shania has been criticized by non fans as being lightweight and fluffy. A title like "So Happy" reinforces that impression.
I don't think the album title "So Happy" is real. To me, it just sounds like a made-up title that somehow got thrown into the mainstream as fact. "So Happy" sounds too much like "Up!" The two titles basically say the same thing. "So Happy" definitely sounds like a title Shania would use, but I think that simply because it's so similar to "Up!" she would not use that title to give the album its own identity.

Hard to judge by the title. If I think some of her previous songs (Any Man Of Mine, Honey I'm Home, Don't Be Stupid, That Don't Impress Me Much, Man! I Feel Like A Woman...) I wouldn't have guessed what kind of songs they are gonna be - only by title I mean.
And fluffy is somewhat double sword kind of judgement. Many of those songs sound quite empty-headed when heard for the first time, but when you listen to them twice you find funny twist of words and faith in there. Many djs and journalists are not able to get that kind of irony and sarcasm; things are black and white to them.
But personally I don't agree. If heavy and serious stuff in life is not allowed to be represented in any other way than heavy and serious - Man! Aren't We In Trouble!

hmmm..? I have absolutely NOTHING against up(lifting) album/song titles... however, I can see somewhat negative implications in too much consecutive tautology.
"So Happy", as an album title, reminds me a bit of "SMiLE" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smile_%28Brian_Wilson_album%29) by Brian Wilson... maybe that's a good thing, who knows..?
"Don't Shoot The Messenger" on the other hand, kinda carries a dark gloomy promise of controversy... a distant early warning of uncompromising matter... a request not to get too upset... of what..? Of these two offered titles, I kinda like this one more: it hints that boundaries might be crossed and walls could come crumbling down... very nice indeed: sounds like a rocking title.
So, there you go: I wasn't going to waste any time on unconfirmed titles, but did so anyway... a nice little warm-up, before the actual event is at hand... somebody might possibly be having a great laugh about this - throwing in some make-believe titles... phöh, no need: I've slammed song titles before, when they've been offered for a test-drive... ANY title can be made to work, with lyrics and music... passing judgement on a song title on it's own, is a bit unfair... album titles are a bit different matter - they represent the whole body of work... and often have to sell it on their own.

Here's a song title I once heared before the music & lyrics were out... and I simply couldn't understand, why the heck anyone would write a song called that... but with the lyrics... the pieces all fall in place...

Shania has always made fun up lifting music so I don't see any reason why that won't continue. I don't think it's her style to make depressing music, what would her concerts be like if she sung sad depressing songs?
If I want depressing music I can look somewhere else for it.
I don't mind the so called album title, but it just sounds a little cheesy.

I once read that the Up! album was meant to cheer people up. So Happy could refer to her own happiness IMO.

True again. But I find the title lacking a certain degree of Shanianess... and this certainly doesn't reflect progression; rather the title's conceptual approach would seem to be stuck in style of 2002...
How about just one word: "Bliss"..? :)
"So Happy" just doesn't impress...
In fact, Peter Gabriel released an album called "Up" earlier in 2002... and he also released an album called "So" in 1986...
