Gotta love how drivers react when the first snowflake falls: stupid!
Gawd! People actually turn mentally moronic when it starts snowing! It's like they forget how to drive!
It snowed a lot last night, and although the streets were plowed, they were still covered with quite a bit of snow and slush. Was on the bus this morning, and I saw tones of drivers driving like they were on the highway or something...going so fast and losing control. Are they trying to cause accidents? At one point, this guy pulls out of his driveway, like super fast, spins out and gets stuck sideways in the lane...the bus slammed on its breaks and still continued to slide, and ended up just missing this car by inches!! What a friggin dork!
Also saw a couple cars smashed into telephone lines. How the hell do you lose control that badly, unless you're speeding? People are idiots! I'm glad I don't drive! I'd be so afraid one of those doinks would hit me! At least when you're on a bus, the bus will win if the car smashes into the bus.

LOL if you think it's bad in Canada, it's probably worse here in the U.S.! I'm afraid to drive on the expressways because people speed NON STOP!

LOL...daaaamn it snowed a lot overnight! It's actually a snow day here because all schools (even colleges) are closed, buses aren't running, and taxi's are only running if it's an emergency! On the news a police officer was saying, "Don't go out unless you absolutely have to." Something like 250 (or more) accidents happened over night! Also, over 60cm of snow has fallen in the past 24 hours, and another 20cm or so is to be expected by the end of today!
:hide:
If it does snow that much, it will break the 1977 record of 57cm of snow on December 7th, and another 20cm on the 8th. You know what's weird, today is the 8th...we will break the record from exactly 29 years ago!
I wish I had snowpants. There is this big field behind our house that I want to run through...being short, I assume it would be like running through waist-deep water though LOL! Anyway, I have some piccies of the snow...

Winter is better than summer in my opinion... in winter you can bundle up till you are nice and warm. In summer, once you are naked, and you're still hot...nothing much else you can do LOL. Also, in winter, there are snow days which cause cancellations/closures of places or bus delays...you don't hear anything about "hot days" and everything being closed because it's too hot lol ;)

...dude, where is my bike?
Well, actually that was month ago, but that snow didn`t like to stay here so it went to look better places.:(
You can keep it there or send 10-20 cm snow back here, not 50cm this time, it`s too much, especially if it comes in two days.
Also, in winter, there are snow days which cause cancellations/closures of places or bus delays...In Finland, we don't have anything like snow cancellation. Once or twice in the winter the conditions may be extremely bad, but a general and 'official' snow cancellation days do not exist.
I don't like driving in snow. Takes much longer to get from point a to point b. Plus its too nerveracking when you can't see the road or anything around you because of low visibilities.

For the time that I have been alive, there have been many times that school has been cancelled, or school buses were cancelled, but more often, there are only just bus delays or cancellations. Schools rarely close. This is the first time I have seen the whole city say, "Meh, too much snow to open or run anything"

The snow looks nice.
I live right on the south coast of England. If we get 10 minutes of snow a year we're lucky. Would love a good covering for the kids to go out play in for once.
Nice pix as usual, Jenn. I grew up in southern Ontario and even lived in London for a year when I was at Western. Yeah, you guys get a lot of snow. You are in the snow belt. On the other hand, your winters are very warm in comparison with Ottawa. So your snow often melts. We have hardly any snow so far but when we do finally get a decent snowfall, it doesn't melt until late March.

Gorgeous snow pictures Jenn....up until last week we didn't have any snow to speak of. There was a bit but only a bit and it didn't last long....it's here to stay for awhile now though.

Some of those pics could be Edmonton this year. I don't think we'll have to worry about draught this year, we've had our share of snow. This defiantly makes up for the years we didn't get none until spring.

Actually there still is not snow in Latvia. It is quite crazy. Looks like all Europe suffers from this problem. Christmas is coming but WHERE is snow? It is still warm outside but Latvia is northern country.. ;)
Well, we have had very little snow in Ottawa. Half of what we did get, is now melted. We have several days of warm weather ahead so we will definitely lose all the remaining snow. I have lived here for 40 years and have never seen a green Christmas. It will be interesting to see if we get snow again in time for Christmas.

We don't have very many snowy christmases here in Texas.

I guess not. But there was snow in the Texas Panhandle last week, was there not?

you know you have snow when the shovel comes out to your front door and ice melt bags are piling up in your garage. hehehehehehee.

Ottawa has ice sculptors from around the world carving away for our Winterlude celebrations every February. I don't have time to find photos at the moment.
The great irony right now is that Ottawa has no snow at all! This is almost unheard of at this time of year.

I know Roger, it's a little weird not having any snow right now. We better get some snow and more cold days, or there may be no Winterlude this year.

During the summer the grass all over was brown/yellow due to draught. Now in December our grass is green!
:uhh:
Okay, I am going to be very politically incorrect here (nothing unusual in that). It is hard to see how global warming is a bad thing for most of Canada. No lectures please. I am well aware of all the effects on most countries and of the possibility of runaway warming. All I am saying is that if the Ottawa climate ends up being more like the climate of Kansas or Tennessee, I myself am not going to complain.
Wow, nice pics.
Interesting point Roger, apperantly England will end up like the south of France.

I'm afraid a much worse fate than that may await you. If enough ice melts at the pole, the southerly flow of cold water will displace the Gulf Stream so it flows much to the south. Ironically, that means that all of western Europe will get colder, not warmer, and your climate will be more like that of Labrador today. :(
