Valparaiso police say they stopped a teenager driving 142 miles per hour in a 55 mile-per-hour zone over the weekend.

Sixteen-year-old Brandon Raap was charged with speeding and misdemeanor reckless driving. He also faces a license suspension.

Raap was stopped by Porter County police at 12:40 a.m. Saturday after he turned his 2004 Subaru Impreza off US 30 near Valparaiso.

The teen told the arresting officer that he was late getting home and did not want his parents to get mad at him.

That's a weird one. But, I have to be a little skeptical of an Impreza going 142. That seems a little too much to me. A corvette or a Mustang? Okay, believe it. The only thing that makes sense to me is that the car was modified and the governor from the factory was removed. Most cars are set by a governor to not exceed around 108. When I was a young lad and before I was married, I had a 61 Vette and I used to take it out on the Interstate occasionally to clean out my twin 4 barrels. I remember one time I wanted to see what it could do. I hit about 140 and it still wanted to go more, but I chickened out.:D
