Have you tried to convert your friends and family into Shania fans? haha. I know I definitely have been trying for forever with some success. So far I've gotten my parents to not just tolerate but actually like her music (they are now taking me to the STC sometime soon :) ). I've also been able to get 2 of my friends to listen to her music on occasion and one of them to love it! haha she just bought most of her albums. Do you have any success stories...or attempts gone horribly wrong? haha

Ahaha ya, I've tried getting my very old school mom to like Shania. She can tolerate her music now and when she hears a Shania Twain song she knows it's her. My mom has a thick accent and when she tries to say Shania Twain it's so cute, she says "Sheeneea Trin" and I'm like very good mom :biglaugh:
My brothers don't have a choice but like Shania since I play her tapes when I'm driving them in my car.

Well... I haven't been able to turn any I know into fans, but my grand mom recognises Shania when she hears her on the radio lol :funny:
I think my Mum can be classed as a fan now :p
My friends aren't that bothered about her. They don't mind her music but they don't understand why I'm a big fan. I can't say it bothers me. Life would be dull if we were all the same.

hahaha my dad is Austrian and he doesn't really have an accent anymore but he'll have trouble pronouncing certain things and he can't say Shania Twain either. I think he's misprounced it in every way you possibly can haha it's so funny. He says it differently everytime. From "Shanya Twan" to "Shinea Train" It was funny the first time my dad saw her he was like :eek: "that's Shiny Twank?" :biglaugh:
My parents both like her music now, which is amazing considering they used to cringe when I played it in the car because they both hate country. I was smart about it though, I played some twangy country then followed it up by a Shania song. So now they're always requesting Shania when I start to play too much other country ;).
I've tried and failed...:( Although my Mum has been to several concerts with me.

I have been very successful in converting lot of people into Shania fans, when friends come around to my house I usually put on some music of some other musician first, give them some wine or beer, once they start to become a little bit tipsy and then depending who they are and what sort of music they are into I will slip the Shania album which I think will convert them, I reckon about 40% success rate. Even my dad likes Shania, that is amazing, but he is still more into Debbie Harry & Kate Bush when it comes to female singers, I converted my Boss into a Shania Fan & he usually listens to classical music most of the time, but he does love a bit of Shania at times.
Me well, my mom is the only real who loves shania after me.
All my friends hates country music they say it's a very old fashioned genre and ugly and stuff like that, and the only shania song they love is Man! I Feel Like A Woman, after that, there is no shania anymore for them :huh: LOL! A bit funny, but it was the only shania song hit here. I have three friends that loves listening to her and many songs, ut they're no fans.
I've many times tried to do it, I can say from a 100%, I've failed 70% latly:eek:

:biglaugh: You're slick like me. I've been known to pull off a few similar things myself :cool: haha. My dad likes similar music to yours and I got him to like Shania too. (Although I'm sure he was more willing to be persuaded once he actually saw her...I watched UCAP with him and he kept going "oh she's really pretty" :funny:)

Actually I do. A long time ago my sister was up stairs with our friend Nicole B and she had the radio on. The song "That Don't Impress Me Much" was playing and my sister asked who sung it cause she liked it alot. Nicole said it was Shania Twain. Sometime later on my sister, Chelsea was talking about the Up ! Album before school and how she liked it and then she got me to like it.
My Mom never liked Shania Twain. She always made fun of her. But we kept playing it over and over so I guess she just started liking it. Then the night of the concert in 2003 we came home from school and my mom was listening to her Cd and singing (She said she was practicing for the concert) :funny:
Then once my Dad found out we all liked Shania he kept playing it in the car when we were with him and I would catch him singing to alot of them like "Don't Be Stupid" and "Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under". He kept saying "She is beautiful, isn't she ?" LOL. I don't know if he liked her before.. I'm sure he did but he liked her more than he did atleast.
We also got my Cousins Marisa and Leandra into Shania Twain's music. I don't know why but everything we do they do like listen to Shania now and watch Charmed. We would always sing Shania songs together and dance in their Mom and Dad's room and tape us dancing to "Party For Two" :funny:
I don't know how but everyone found out we were huge Shania fans .. like my Dad's whole family and all of our friends.
I think that's all really ......

haha good story. It's probably so easy to convert people because her music is so easy to love haha. My friends will listen to her but they don't really "love it". I'm hoping to change that because I need people to go to the concert with when she starts touring!

Honestly... I don't think I've ever come across a person who would claim to "dislike" Shania - many who aren't familiar with her name, but play them a song and they go: "Ahaa..! - I know that song..! - So, *this* is Shania Twain..!" - no need for "converting" at all... I'd even dare to say, that there's a fan of Shania in every person... only the levels of appreciation vary.
Shania's songs are more widely & better known, than the artist herself.
...and that's the whole idea in songwriting in the first place, right..?

That's true, but my friends always try to tease me about it and go EWWW everytime I mention her. They do that with Grey's Anatomy too even though one of my friends loves the show too. They're silly...I know they like her though. One time when we were driving somewhere I had my iPod on really loud when I was listening to some of her songs and you could hear it and I caught them singing along haha ;).

Fortunately my dad and my mom are big fans! :] I've tried to convert some of my friends into Shania fans, but that was like 4 or 5 years ago, and for some reason they now hate her even more... stupid people! :weird: So I just stopped doing that, even because I don't wanna get really angry :p

like they have a choice? lol. i play shania cds everyday on the living room stereo.. my dad knows what track comes next already. i use to play all the cds eveyday. from "shania twain" to "GH". now i just play two cds a day. they all know shania. they think she has great voice and sexy and great songs too. so yeah.. i tried.. lol

My friends, your friends, our friends, most of them rather the electronic or whatever kind except for country, that's probably the main reason, they think country is music only for cowboys or far east or stuff like that, waa.. it's true country is not so popular in many places, but I consider that's the reason they tend to hate her or something.. :eek:

last year me and my friend jason did a dance at school to party 4 two and we did it in frount of the whole school in assembly on stage and everything at the end about 13 different girls came up and were like who was singing that song i told them shania twain the next day i caught two of them singing along to shania twain on there ipods and then jason who was like im not dancing to shania twain everyone will think im weak and i dont like shania twain comes in and put shania twain up on full bull in class and starts singing and dancing

I hate when people critisize other people for no reason (whether they are famous or not)
I'll be honest and say I used to be very critical of other people but now it's one thing I really can't stand. It really bugs me when people are completely narrow-minded.

here's an example:i met a guy and when he found out that i was listening to Shania he said "Faith is better shania look like a man"and i was like'WHAT SHANIA LOOKS LIKE A MAN?"and then i went on saying that Shanis is much more feminine then Faith she's curvy and all.but,this guy likes Marilyn Manson so,i guess he's just weird and i never met him again,too bad my friend likes him.:mad:

she was bashing shania (i think meant to be as a joke for me) but i was not amused. it was something about shania's name being weird. i really didnt talked to her.
but when i think about it now i just laugh. i knew my bestfriend loves and respects me and she never really meant a thing. i took it so seriously i missed the joke of it. :funny::funny:

I actually got an English teacher of mine and my best friend. My English teacher used to change the radio station when Shania came on, but I made such a big deal out of how great she is that my teacher actually likes her now.
My best friend and I used to hang out so much (we still do, but not at so much at one of our houses) that whatever one of us listened to, the other would too, simply because we heard it so much. So I was always playing Shania and she got hooked too! :D

besides you guys on the forums everyone i know hates her even my husband. But my kid dances to it he is 2 years old. So I guess I brought him up to be a Shania fan.

A lot of my friends always say stuff to me, but I could honestly care less.
It actually makes me laugh sometimes because it just proves how little they know about good music.
Most of the time when they say stuff they're listening to a random rap song - apparently that's good music? :dunno::funny:

Many of my friends who are not as 'obsessed' with Shania like me, lol, enjoy to pick on me about it. Sometimes its funny and cute, but at times it can be real annoying and aggravating too, lol.

i had bought a key chain and a week later it snapped in half now it says "ania"
but you know what tell her it is your keys and Shania is your fav singer and tell her you are my fav wife forever.
