I hate that fan club, tell me for half my membership that I'm not a member. Oh yeah that was well worth the money I spent. I think paying somebody to kick me in the crotch would've been more worth it, probably.

FinnFreak

This kit is less than the first one back in 2003... combined for years 2005 & 2006 - which is illegal, by the way... and Musictoday's nearly 2 years late with it...

The OFC is NOT a "fan club" at all - not in my dictionary - it's a North American concert ticketing service.

Don't let yourselves be fooled.

I think it's a bit of a cheek this Starlight sample, you pay for a sample? it's like you have to pay more for a T-Shirt with a brand name on it when you should be payed to wear the T-Shirt, life can suck with all this rip off tactics.
PS Sean how much are you offering for me too Kick?

There was a Laynard for the 2nd kit. You listed the 1st and 3rd yr kits. The new one is the 4th.

I don't think a DVD is mandatory. However, I don't believe the items included justify the wait or the hype about a doube kit.

I don't think a kit is a reason for joining an artists OFC. I believe there purpose is to make you feel like you belong, a perk if you will. However the OFC offers nothing once you join, so the kit is the only thing they have for members, aside from presale tickets. Which doesn't mean anything right now.

I've been wondering why I'm a member for some time now.

They should change it from Offical fan club too Officially Found Carcus, of a fan club that is.

The lights aren't on but I think thats only because there isn't a socket in the place to stick a light bulb.

I don't think the elevator has gone to the top floor because they only finished it until it went halfway UP.

I suppose if you happened to be one of those people who has won a fanclub contest over the past couple of years, you might feel that the $60 was worth it........ but then there are very few of those.

For those members who are excluded from the contests, it's hard to see how such a package can really be worth 2 years' membership fees.

One other observation.......... maybe it's just me, but does anyone else feel that this package was put together with female fans in mind?

Julia,

You should still get a kit even if your membership has expired. Even I have a right to expect a kit in return for renewing my membership in April of last year (it wasn't until June of this year, after I'd renewed again, that they decided to ban me)!

If you don't receive one, just email them at: shaniatwaincs@musictoday.com with your address......... although I'd give them a bit longer yet - they probably didn't post them all out at the same time, so yours might be in one of the later batches.

They could have put a perfume promo DVD in the fankits this time, just an idea. I'm suprised that they didn't do any promo from her greatest hits, which celebrated a decade's worth of music, then there was her Homecoming 2004 and in 2005, she got the Order of Canada. These were all special events. They only put out footage from her Up! album launch and concert tours.

In fact, I think most people have been reasonably happy with previous years' kits......... when they've finally arrived! However, the feedback I've been getting behind the scenes tells me that a lot of fans are privately very disappointed with this latest kit - they don't believe it's worthy of a single year's membership fee, let alone 2!

There appear to have been efforts made at the fanclub to "talk up" this kit, with suggestions of direct involvement from Shania herself (and even the implication that this was the reason for the ridiculous delay). I dare say that some thought and time went into devising the new logo, but the items themselves appear to have cost very little to put together - not much recompense for international fans, for whom the kit is the only thing of any value they ever receive in return for their membership fee!

Maybe we'll even get this year's kit before the beginning of next year!
Well, unless Musictoday back away from their decision to make the present kit cover 2 years, there simply won't be a separate kit for 2007. In that case, members are unlikely to see another kit now until at least the back end of 2008....... more likely 2009!

Lisa may have promised to look into the problem, but this is what Evan Cooper, Director of Fanclub Services, had to say recently:

"Fan Kits – as posted in the news update ........ and on the message boards, the new fan kits will be shipping in September. The kit will be shipped to all members who joined in 2007 as well as 2006 and includes a number of exclusive items as well as a sample of Shania’s new fragrance."

So it's quite clear that Musictoday have decided to go against what they previously promised in writing. My guess is that they're currently busy discussing whether they can get away with breaking yet another promise!

My advice to fanclub members would be that they should not expect a response from Lisa anytime soon - in my experience, Musictoday are only quick to communicate when they have good news!

Did anyone actually get an e-mail informing them their kit was in the post? When I renew with the Met Club they send me an e-mail telling me my kit is on the way and how long I should expect to wait for it.

I don't. They can pass the blame as much as they want. But the fact is, they cannot offer good customer service. And that is my biggest complaint about the OFC. It annoys me so much that we have to hear our news through Angie.

I noticed the news regarding Shania's Anne Murray duet is filtered through the messageboard. But attending the CMA's via Ticketmaster, is announced on the home page.

That's a problem I'd hoped would be resolved when Lisa arrived on the scene. However, it would appear that she is far too busy dealing with other new fanclubs (which are currently making Musictoday a lot more money than Shania's) to provide the type of feedback fans need.

I got it today. This is what was in it. There was a perfume sample, a little key chain with her Starlight picture on one side and official club logo on the other side. Then there is a blank note book and a relatively nice ink pen. There is also a peel and stick bumper sticker with the official logo, and last, but not least, there is the bracelet. You know the "meet and greet" for concerts item. That at least has Shania's name on it. The pen and note book could have at least had her name on them. Tha t would would have been nice as Andy Rooney of 60 Minutes would say.:( There was one single thing going on though. It looks like everything was made in China!:D

Thanks Steve for posting that disappointing garbage you received in the mail today. Now at least when mine comes I can't get any more disappointed. I probably would have had a smile on my face when I receive it only to turn into a frown. Now I can just open it with a smurk on my face. You probably can't even get your money back by putting it up on ebay. Nobody would want it. LOL. Maybe I will try any way. LOL. Don't get me wrong, but I love any Shania stuff I can get my hands on, but this does not sound like any thing worth saving. I love collecting Shania stuff (I have a real, real lot of that) and I love all music memorabilia from certain artisits as well especially if I have seen them in concert. I would have loved a shirt or a few buttons or the starlight button which is nice, or even a nice official glossy candid shot of Shania promoting starlight. Something worth while. I guess the moderators over at the OFC (which I no longer belong to until tour season starts) really hyped up the fan kit. Boy, they have red faces now. They were wrong about when they were going out and totally wrong about possibly being like a great kit. Two years without one and this is what they think is great. Give me a break. BBB should hear about this. Frowning in New York, Tom

Steve

Thanx for the description, Steve. I basically had no interest in the kit to begin with. I am not a memorabilia kind of guy. As for the specifics,

- the perfume sample is of no interest to me. In fact, I believe our environment does not need yet another perfume and certainly the many allergic people do not need another perfume to react to.

- I will certainly not use the keychain. I have two Shania Twain Centre keychains (one for each car) which I use every day. My allegiance is to the STC not the present official fan club

- notebook and a pen *yawn*

- bumper sticker - er, no. I do not proclaim my allegiances on my car.

- bracelet - there is a germ of a good idea here but Angie has suggested that someone will be looking for them at future concerts and awarding privileges to those people seen wearing them. This seems very haphazard to me. Lots of fan club members would be missed this way. Why not keep track of which members have bought tickets to which concerts in the first place? Oh yeah, that would mean work on the part of the fan club. I guess that won't happen.

I don't believe the braclet will help you getting on stage and meeting Shania. I believe that's just something easy to say to keep people quiet because the kit is terrible. It's going to be at least 18 months before Shania tours, something else will have happened by then and the idea will have passed.

Yeah. Well, let's face it, the kits are not given every year as claimed. So this kit will still be the latest even if Shania doesn't tour for 18 months. So we can make a point of reminding the fan club about the bracelets. Not that will make any difference of course.

It doesn't impress me much either. I had my last claim to being a member of the fan club in 2003. It is poorly run with little interest to the fans and Shania. I've read a lot here and who's at fault? I don't really grasp and it doesn't matter much to me anymore anyways. I wish the fan club was like the days before Musictoday. If you've got a spare 6 months check out the Petition thread and find out about "powergames". Just because certain people were banned from the OFC, they think that gives them a right to make it their big campaign in life. That's fine if the other side can be heard too, but it never is on here. Two teenage girls who at the time were in support of the OFC and Angie, were sent nasty and aggressive Pm's that upset them, and seemed to change their views more to the liking of this Forums views. As a father of two young daughters myself that is something I don't like.

All I want to hear is a more balanced argument as I know there are many fans who are happy with the OFC. These people who bellyache on here will still renew when the time comes. If you don't like it get out and stop your moaning.:furious:

Paul Briscoe together with a few helpers including myself began the effort to get MusicToday to improve the fan club. Once it became obvious that the OFC had no intention of treating its members equally, we began the petition to try to have the fan club moved to the Shania Twain Centre. Paul began the initiative two years before they kicked him out of the fan club. Ultimately, that was the fan club's unbelievably cruel response to an honest, unselfish effort. Will it be his campaign for life? Probably not but there are still steps that can be taken if he chooses to take them.

You are always welcome to express dissenting views to our group. We are not fascists. But it is a fact that the overwhelming majority of fans who are active online agree with us. So with over a thousand who have signed the petition, you don't hear much from OFC defenders because there aren't many. I don't know who sent PMs but our group is not interested in intimidation. We just want a fair deal for fan club members.

You sound as if you are spoiling for a fight, timminslover. We really are not interested in that kind of thing. As for myself, I prefer to discuss things openly, not hidden in PMs.

In my experience, Jenna and Julia are intelligent and very independent minded. Perhaps they will correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they made their own minds up based on information they uncovered for themselves. I'm certainly not aware of any "nasty and agressive" PM's........ as Roger said, intimidation is not our style - it was the fanclub which chose to silence dissenting voices!

All I have ever done is to present the facts as thoroughly as I can - for most fans the facts speak for themselves.

One thing that has struck me in recent days is the huge contrast between fans' views of the latest kits posted here and at the fanclub.

Certainly, everyone I have spoken to regarding the kits considers them pretty cheap and nasty, yet at the fanclub members who have never posted before seem eternally grateful for the wonderful kits - it's almost like they're not living on the same planet as the rest of us!!!

There may be some truth in what Steve F said regarding the kits being of more interest to younger fans, but I'm not sure that's the whole story.

Last night someone dared to post on the fanclub thread that the kits were "crap"........ and I note that today that particular post has been deleted!

In a recent email response to a fan, Evan Cooper, Musictoday's Director of Fanclubs, said the following:

"Message Board Moderation – we agree that members should be able to post their opinions about the fan club, even if they are negative towards the fan club, Musictoday or address issues with the club."

With this latest deletion, it seems that Musictoday's communication procedures have failed once again........ still, at least now everyone at the fanclub can continue to feel just like one big happy family!

I note that some of you are now not intending to renew your fanclub membership. Perhaps, before your membership expires, you should post your own views regarding the kits at the fanclub to redress the balance somewhat........ and test Musictoday's supposed new-found tolerance of dissenting views!

That is halarious and a member or should I say MODERATOR angwags kept removing my posts so I kept asking why with no response of course!, then I tried to log in today and NOW my membership has been cancelled that's certainly unfair and and just plain mean, but at least I got my kit as CRAPPY as it is which is the ONLY reason why I joined because the rest of OFC is CRAP too. THANKs FOR SAVING MY MONEY TO REJOIN NEXT MONTH THAT IS MONEY WELL SAVED and for you ANGWAGS thanks for opening my eyes ANGIE to you and OFC!!!!!!!!

Are you banned from STOFC too?!?
Another one?!?
Just for negative comments about Kits and FC?!?
...
The things are everyday worst unfortunately...
And MT is continuing to lie to the Fans.
Its stange...
Im not renewing since past august...
But my account is simply 'expired'...
Not cancelled.
There is still the box to renew, if I try to log in...

Sorry for you...
I left the STOFC before something like this would has happened to me too...
I decided to not post in the last 2 months of my membership.

You must be referring to the one who had things removed? is that a nicname popo? rotflmao Your member ID is Paul and it says banned in it, is that what you are saying? If your banned you can still renew your membership? Or have you tried or just assume you can? This really puts a damper in my day (not that a really, really, care) ,but why cancel your membership because you disapprove of the kit you were sent and waited two years for.

Paul

Paul,

That was me and when I tried to log on today it came up account cancelled. Read back a few posts I posted the whole thing I'm really ticked off.

Paul, I don't know how much people here go to the OFC, but I don't spend much there. The reason is that it seems to have been taken over by teens. Now there is nothing wrong with that, but I think that is why posting there is a lot more positive about the kits. If you guys want my opinion for what it's worth, I think the kits are what you would expect if you were in a Hanna Montana club, or High School Musical, or what's that new girl's name? Oh yeah Ashley Tisdale. But it is not what the rest of us expected. I don't expect to recieve $50 worth of stuff, but some kind of a DVD and gee how about some nice pictures we haven't seen. They could give us a coffee mug. But a notebook, a bracelet that is not even as good quality as the exact same one I got from Blue Cross/Blue Shield for participating in the their healthy rewards program? Then there is the 2 cent sticker, 50 cent key chain and, oh yes the ink pen like the ones you get free at the bank.:p

Okay, so I'm being an ole' fuddy duddy, but to me they, to quote Shania, "could've done better"!:smirk:

It was shipped in a flimsy grey envelope with no support or bubble wrap inside to protect from the weather it is just a plain 0.25 or 0.50 cent envelope which the items inside can easily be damaged which mine were. There was no care in picking the items for the fans or packaging it; it all look like it was put together by monkeys who went shopping at the buck store. True. But there are ways around this. They could tell all fan club members who of course will be wearing their bracelets to report to someone at a certain place. Or, maybe they could offer a discount on merchandise to anyone wearing the bracelet.

I'm surprised people are still renewing or joining the club. It is the most worst run fan club I have ever been part of.
Im not waiting the kit for this year. Im waiting my kit for 2006-2007 membership.
My membership is expired since 01 august 2007.
Awesome:bounce: whats in the kit?

:(For all those Shania ID Cards you make this is how they treat you:mad:, they should be ashamed of themslveshttp://i204.photobucket.com/albums/bb286/tanktopshania/animations%20and%20smilies/hugegrin.gif
Thanks Steve :).

I would like to be in the fan club if it was a real fanclub. Most North American fanclubs dont offer anything for members in other continents, but they do offer nice things to their North American members. If Shanias fanclub would do that. I'd consider joining. But it's not even offering the North American members anything nice. What a waste.

Dolly Parton once had a fanclub many years ago. She had had it for some time. She felt really bad about it every day the club was alive. She thought it was so wrong to charge people for being her fans, that she canceled the fanclub and refunded every fan in the club from her own pocket...... That was real nice of her I must say

Interesting about Dolly. Maybe Shania would be better without one than have one which upsets people so much.

Dolly seems very kind to do that for her fans. I think Shania would do the same, but just hasn't taken much notice of it lately. :dunno:
