Well, it's been a very rough and emotional last couple of days for me, I need all the prayers I can get. Well it all started last weekend when we noticed Ginger (my grandma's dog) was breathing funny. My grandma took her to the humane society 1st thing Monday morning, where they diagnosed her with a slight respiratory infection. Well last night we noticed she hadn't been getting any better and had since stopped eating completely, looked terrible, and was being very quiet and lathargic, which is very unsual for her, so we took her to an emergency animal hospital, where they said she was suffering from diabetes, and pancreatitis, as well as Cushings Disease, which she had been diagnosed with a few weeks ago after putting on some weight and eating almost everything in site. Well the humane society that diagnosed the Cushings Disease didn't run the blood/urinary tests extensive enough and apparently failed to catch the diabetes we thought she had all along. So last night after I got off of work, we brought her in to an emergency animal hospital, and they said she had sugar, keytones, and acidic stuff in her urine and blood, so she was definitely diabetic, so they kept her for a few hours to try some treatments to make her feel better, but when we picked her up, she had only gotten weaker, and on the way to the 24 hour animal hospital, she died in the car, just sopped breathing and moving. As you can see it is a very upsetting time for us all, we've been crying all day, my mom took the day off of work today, and I asked to get off tomorrow because I was afraid I may not make it through tomorrow without crying or breaking down. It was so horrible, just to see her little lifeless body in the basket we had her in in the car, not to see her moving or breathing. So Ginger died this morning, in a lot of pain from the pancreatitis, but she never really showed she was in pain, and she was just too sick to save her, too many serious things wrong with her at the same time, the overnight animal hospital did what they could, but it was too late, she was just too sick, her body couldn't handle the anitibiotics she had been trying to take for her respiratory problems. What's also weird is that she had an ulcer on her gums, and her glands were very swollen and her throat was very red and bleeding for some reason nobody knows, this was something the humane society didn't check out as well when they should have Monday. Ginger was only 8 years old, too young to leave us so soon.

OMG!!! I'm so sorry Heidi!! :( What a terrible thing for Ginger to have to endure...and now you having to deal with the sorrow of losing her. :( There's nothing to say or do that'll make you feel better, so I'll just tell you that you will all be in my thoughts and prayers....now and always!! Love you sweetie....:hugs:
Goodness, Heidi, I'm sorry to hear that. You all will be in my thoughts. Thanks to you and your family, Ginger had a happy life.
And for future reference (though I'm sure you figured this out)...humane societies are not good at diagnosing dogs. In fact, many dogs that they spay and neuter often end up having to have the procedure done again because the humane society left something there that shouldn't have been left, etc. Just a general rule for your next animal. :)

Heidi, I'm so sorry. :( It's so sad to lose a pet, they're a part of the family and it's hard to lose them. I'll keep you in my thoughts and you know if you ever need to talk, I'm here anytime. :hugs:

Thanks, we've decided we're no longer going to go take my poor doggie to the humane society, we've had blood work done on him several times in the last couple of years because he's suddenly lost a lot of weight and was throwing up and pooping in the house almost every day (some of you may remember I made a thread about my dog I think last summer or the summer before), but they never found anything wrong with him, so we're going to take him to the vet we take my cat to for a 2nd opinion, because who knows what the humane society might have messed up with my dog? And my own aunt said she hates vets, and it took her a long time to find 1 she liked.
Ouch, So sorry to hear this Heidi. I have no words. Things like these happens when you can hardly imagine them. All prays for the doggie.

You're welcome. :)
Vets are hard to come by....well, good ones, anyway. So many times they'll rip you off, misdiagnose or tell you your pet needs some sort of special diet food (normally they recommend Science Diet which is AWFUL for dogs and cats) that's more expensive and doesn't do anymore for them than a high quality food would. You really gotta do your homework and watch what you're getting into. Anyway, good luck! I know you'll find a good vet! If you want some help, I can ask around for some vets in your area on some dog forums. Just let me know. :)

I am lucky having a good vet for our dogs, but when I was a kid and I first moved to England we lived in Liverpool and the local vet I am sure killed off two of our dogs by bad veterinary practise.

Thanks! We're probably going to take the dog to my cat's vet, who does a very thorough examination of the cat once a year, including mouth and teeth checkups.
