Not too far away now, hopefully that could mean a possible attendance from Shania and some US promo for Starlight, if she's in town. This year's awards are being hosted by Jeff Foxworthy.

I hope we will see Shania at the CMA's.

I will avoid the CMAs like the plague. I don't listen to country music any more. I don't agree with their lack of recognition of the Dixie Chicks' latest album (which won 5 Grammys). Foxworthy himself made a sneering comment about the Chicks at one of the CMAs - he truly is a redneck. Reba too has made hurtful comments about the Chicks and I sure don't want to see her again either.

If Shania should appear, I will catch it later on youtube.

The Eagles are supposed to perform at the CMAs. I will catch that on youtube for sure. It will be interesting to see if Don Henley mentions the Chicks. He sure made his support for the Chicks evident at the Grammys and the Eagles are doing six concerts with the Chicks in October in LA.

Yeah I know that was ridiculous and I'm still mad as hell! :funny: I could never boycott the entire genre though. There are still a lot of country artists I like and I would watch the CMAs just to support them too. Props to you for being able to do that though!

Well, I am as big a fan of the Chicks as I am of Shania. I didn't used to be. I wasn't a big fan until I heard their latest album. I wasn't a big fan as a result of the Chicks' feud with Toby Keith. In fact, I didn't even know about it. I wasn't a big fan because of the way country music treated the Chicks after their comment in 2003. I was barely aware of that actually. But their latest album is just about the best, most sophisticated album I have ever heard. That did make me a big fan. So after I became a fan, I found out about the dreadful treatment the Chicks received (death threats, CD stompings, organized boycotts, etc.) and that made me mad!

Just imagine if any of those things had been done to Shania! How would you feel about country music then? Or about the CMAs? Well, that is how I feel.

That's a good point, but I still couldn't hate a lot of the country artists which I love right now because of that. I can understand you hating the country music industry though...because I know I do for the most part and I disagree with A LOT of the stuff they believe in. It's probably the most ridiculous industry in the music business right now.

What was that about? I love Toby Keith's music.

Their argument started when Natalie said that Toby's song "Courtesy of the Red, White & Blue" was ignorant and that it made country music seem ignorant or something (which I agree with sorry...it was a bit um graphic?) and was spurred on by her comment about Bush. Toby then said that she never wrote anything that was a hit and doctored a photo of her with Saddam Hussein. Then Natalie wore a shirt at the ACMAs that said FUTK (which I'm sure you can decipher :funny:). Eventually it just faded and Toby said that he was done feuding with her and yeah that's basically it.

O right. I like that song. I don't agree with the attitude in it, infact I find it amusing.

Toby made up this doctored photo of Saddam and Natalie and then blew it up and showed it at all his concerts. This implied of course that Nat supported Saddam or was defending him. To my mind, this was dishonest but more to the point libellous and legally actionable. But Nat never did take him to court. That is not her style. But whereas only Toby's fans got to see the photo, Nat's shirt was seen by the whole nation when she performed at the ACM awards. The ACM didn't realize what the shirt meant while she was performing but Chicks fans got the message!

Toby backed off after that. Maybe someone whispered in his ear that he was legally vulnerable. Maybe he didn't know at first that Nat never turns the other cheek (this was before Nat's comments about Bush) and was quite prepared to keep criticizing him nationally.

Yes, that red white and blue song disgusted me too when I first heard it. I will always remember when Toby performed it at the CMAs. The whole audience jumped to their feet afterwards and gave him a standing ovation. That sickened me and was the beginning of the end of my liking for country music.

I can understand that. I didn't actually see Toby's performance but I could imagine how you felt when you saw it. I know I'd probably feel the same.
