Over time I've seen many positive and negative comments made regarding the revealing outfits that Shaina has worn on photo shoots as well as in public. That said, what do you think about this topic? Personally I suspect the opposition comes from the various generations of forum members; thus, I suspect that the older members might be more opposed to Shaina revealing too much whereas there is little or no opposition by the younger members. Could I be wrong? :dunno: Note that I am exactly the same age as Shania (I'm actually 1 month older than she is) and honestly believe that Shania wears what she wants to wear whether she's on a photo shoot or in puiblic. For example, whether it be the very low cut black and white gown she wore to the CMAs back in 1996 (?) or the Maxim shoot with the black lace bra. Shania's apparently a strong willed person and will not let anyone coerce her into wearing or posing in a way she's not comfortable with. Do I hear an Amen? Let the discussion begin.

I think there will always be people who doesn't like her more revealing photo shoots but I don't think it depends on the age. For example I'm 25 and I don't like the Blender and Maxim photo shoots....they show more of Shania than I want to see.

As long as people are differnet there will be different opinions on this just like some of us likes her pop versions more than the country versions of her songs.

I don't have a problem with it because there are people out there who take it alot futher. I think its enough to be sexy without being ****ty. Its not like the are any nipple slips or you can see whats she got down below like some people but I won't mention names.

Absolutely! Although Shania has come close. I heard she realized after one of her Up! tour shows that the pink bra she wore was a bit too see through and you could in fact make out what was underneath. That pic is even posted on this forum.

Okay I am the old guy here (63). I have these views:

1) there is entirely too much attention paid on this and other boards to Shania's physical appearance. It is true she is a great beauty but surely that is not why we are fans, is it? Show business is full of beautiful women. Most of them bore me because their physical appearance is their main attraction. They hold my attention for a few seconds and that's it. Surely it is Shania's music that counts?

2) having said that, Shania is a great showman (showperson?). She obviously loves to dress up and provides lots of entertainment with all her various getups. If some of them are revealing, I have no objection at all. She could do a nude photoshoot as far as I am concerned and it would not alter my opinion of her at all. My interest in her is in her music and the showmanship she shows in her videos and concerts. Everything else is peripheral.

3) having said that, you have to be careful about the circumstances under which you choose to show a lot of skin. I remember Shania showed up at the Lincoln Center at an event that was to honour various persons, one of whom was Dolly Parton. Shania showed up showing too much breast in my opinion. Why was this wrong in this case? Because the Lincoln Center is a formal setting and this was a formal, supposedly dignified event. More importantly, this event was to honour certain people. They were supposed to be the centre of attention, not the members of the audience or the performers. Sure enough though, the press couldn't resist splashing pictures of Shania with her breasts nearly hanging out. This took the attention away from Dolly and the others honorees. This was not fair ball in my opinion. So showing a lot of skin is all a matter of context. Usually that is fine. Sometimes it is not.

I strongly agree with this, she made an error wearing that dress with her tatas hanging out. Context is everything. On tour Shania wears comfortable clothes that don't reveal too much because she has young fans and she is a role model to them, in a Maxim shoot she can't exactly wear a turtleneck. Unfortunately the Kennedy Centre Honours dress was a misstep on her part. It was a beautiful dress but it should have been more covered up in the front, especially since she performed in it.

I think Shania has made the mistake by putting too much effort into appearance and sex appeal. She is of course one of the most beautiful women on this planet, I have eyes, but at times I wish she would tone it down some. It takes away too much from her persona, music, and what a great singer/songwriter she is. Too many people only see the physique on Shania and can't see the rest.

We all know the controversy she created and I hope this is not how many people will remember her 50 years from now, the sex symbol. She tells interviewers how she's not comfortable with photo shoots and all that part of the business yet she's involved in that quite a bit saying that is part of the business and it is expected. I don't think that is necessarily true since ladies like Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, and the rest don't do photos anywhere near as much as Shania and they're doing fine just being singers and not models. It is a pop country culture clash. Shania is grouped more in with the pop stars who use visual way too much and use it to help sell their product.

I will say this also, Shania is still very tame in comparison to the majority of pop culture. I can think of only a few moments she disappointed me but I get over it. Yes, she wears a lot of revealing items for photo shoots, sexy videos, many interesting choices for award show dresses or stage show outfits. The ACMA 1996 dress mentioned is one good example. Her outfit for the 2003 AMA in that white piece, her 2002 catsuit at the CMAs. Many of her European performances are more revealing then in N.A. She has many outfits with her showcasing so much bra and the lining of her panties too.

I wasn't to happy about the extras from her role in the lousy film, I Heart Huckabees. With her in her bra and those two men caressed under each of her arms. Also the Kennedy Center dress already mentioned. It was a prestigious event, not some wacky usual award show and it was not necessary to expose so much chest. Yet that is the trend today. All the women are exposing a ton of cleavage and not leaving much to the imagination.

Again, I think she has sold the sex appeal too much and it at times hurts her image with purists knowing she away from image, is a very good, decent, and caring woman, not some floozy. The woman has old fashioned qualities and is super talented, well spoken, and intelligent. It just makes it harder for non admirers to appreciate the woman as a whole and to be taken seriously. She doesn't back down to these facts, she's strong willed, and of course we knew she went from an insecure, self conscious girl to a very confident sassy entertainer. She's covered this topic enough in interviews and she does always come up with a logical well stated remark about it. I am a big fan of all she does regardless of a few bumps, classy through and through, sometimes edgy. After all, this is entertainment and as Shania herself said, she wouldn't be doing this (baring midriff) if she had an office job. :D

Seriously though, I view Shania as a complete package, talent, brains, personality
and beauty. Together they make up what and who she is. Yes, the music is primary but in her case it doesn't need to stand alone. Many good singers have abnoxious personalities or lifestyles and because of that they have no attraction to me and that affects how I respond to their music, regardless of their looks. I don't care if they're physically attractive (that does not diminish their talent for me) as long as they aren't brainless or obnoxious (that does). But with Shania we get the whole deal in a positive way, and she would be less than Shania if she did not exploit all her gifts.
I don't have any problem with any of Shania's outfits as far as being too revealing.
There are some I don't care for fashion-wise and which I feel do not compliment her but hey, I'm not wearing them. Personally, I did not care for the Maxim pics. I don't think they were all that flattering. More like a Penneys lingerie catalog than a sexy pictoral. The poses were just weird. It's as if they just wanted to show she had boobs. Okay, message received. But I already knew that from more flattering pics. And I'm not sure why she agreed to them. She didn[t need a boost for her career. Maybe it was because she had already done FHM and thought she would go ahead and appear in another popular men's magazine. Perhaps she was just trying to reassure herself of her sex appeal. Anyway, even though they are more revealing than most, they have the least appeal to me. The FHM pics are much better, in my opinion. It wouldn't offend me
if she appeared au naturale in Playboy though it would be unnecessary and would convey the wrong message to her young fans. (Maybe a Playboy interview for those who only read the articles)
She was, and still is, one sexy gal and for some of her fans who may find her music marginal, her sexiness may be a greater attraction. I like her music very much though, and play it virtually every day. But it's better to see her sing so I watch the videos every chance I get. Her flirty and fun personality comes through and enhances the music performance and to see her live in person is electrifying.
But as I have said before, she could just stand still wearing a burlap sack and I would watch for hours. Admittedly, I am a Shania fan-atic.
So bring on the bras, the low-cut dresses, the shorts, the mini's, the skin-tight pants
as well as the jerseys, the jeans, the gowns and the sweatshirts. I love 'em all, as long as Shania is in them.

Wow! These are ALL such great responses showing such diversity in our opinions. Personally, I also think the Maxim shoot was kind of strange. It didn't even look like Shania in terms of appearance, presentation, and form. That shoot was simply to exploit her boobs. I can appreciate that ;); however, exploit her face and hair as well. The makeup and hair were just aweful! Shania's eyes can be stared into for hours and her hair make you forever want to run your fingers through it. Being so, do it right or don't do it at all! As for this discussion, Shania is all woman and not only has incredible curves, she also has the gift of composing and singing music. I hope we see more of her...regardless if she's showing little or a lot of skin. :love:

Although the Maxim shoot caused a lot of crazy criticism back in its days, I still think it's a good one. Not because Shania's boobs are revealed more than they should, but because I think it's more of a recognition thing... Ok... She's sexy, why not pose for Maxim! Shania posed for Maxim, cool let's go see her...

It really doesn't bother me in the slightest what Shania decides to wear. I think she has a nice balance between looking "sexy" and looking normal (although you could argue that her normal look is more sexy). I can respect that she isn't one of those people who wear next to nothing everywhere they go just for attention, but I also respect the fact that she isn't an uptighty who deems it inappropriate to celebrate that sex appeal.

Don´t get me wrong I do like Maxim photos,I really do!she looks great;) But I still believe that´s not the image she should give. Before Shania posed I thought the same way as you about Maxim and well now Shania is in that group but at least we know she's better than those others. :D

It's interesting to see the number of fans who don't like Maxim pics. I personally never liked them much either and thought it wasn't the wisest thing at the time. I remember reading in the Shania bio "On my Way" that Shania would never consider been photographed in her bra, I guess she may have changed her mind about that later on.

I thought The Blender pics were more fun then anything and more to my taste. However I don't like the one where she has the Nike cap on and she has her legs spread and her eyes closed.

Shania has changed her mind or evolved with the times I guess you can say from what she use to say back in the day. She said she always wanted to be the wholesome fun sexy type and I suppose she still is to a degree, but since UP she definitely has expressed and exposed her image a lot more. So much for the not being photographed in a bra idea. :funny: Just look at all those European TV performances, but like I said she has to evolve with the times. The trends today are something else. No doubt, Shania is flashy yet tame.

I only hope most people remember her for her singing and songs and not the image 50 years from now.
