Okay so this isn't meant to turn into a "I like this genre better than this genre thread". I just wanted to see who liked what versions of which songs on the Up! album.

IMO:

1) Up! [Red]
2) I'm Gonna Getcha Good [Red/Green]
3) She's Not Just a Pretty Face [Red]
4) Juanita [Blue]
5) Forever and For Always [Red/Green]
6) Ain't No Particular Way [Green/Blue]
7) It Only Hurts When I'm Breathing [Green]
8) Nah! [Red]
9) (Wanna Get To Know You) That Good! [Green]
10) C'est La Vie [Green]
11) I'm Jealous [Green]
12) Ka-Ching! [Red]
13) Thank You Baby! (For Making Someday Come So Soon) [Red/Green]
14) Waiter! Bring Me Water! [Doesn't Matter]

3, Blue

I feel the green mixes slow the uptempo songs down too much, although they work nice on the ballads. I also think the red mixes have more bass and drive and seem to fit the songs better. I'm sorry the blue mixes just don't do it for me.

Definitely Red!:music:
Green would be next, but I am not that much of a country fan. On the other hand, Shania Country is a different animal from the other stuff.

Blue? Weird!:help:

The one green version I do prefer is FAFA.

It's been a while since I have listened to any of the Up! albums as a whole, so I'll just list a few songs which I think really sound best in one version (that I remember):

Ain't No Particular Way [Up!Close and Personal]
Everything just clicked with this song when I heard the UCAP version, that's the way it should have been from the start.

C'est La Vie [Blue]
I remember hearing this as blue version from the IGGG single, and I really liked the reggae feel to it.

I Ain't Goin' Down [UCAP/Green]
Another song that I feel works best as a country/acoustic version. It is a country story song.

In My Car (I'll Be The Driver) [Red]
And this one works best as the red version.

Other songs I feel work ok as any version, or the difference in preferences are too small to mention. Of course, as a whole I prefer the green version. I just wish it had been done more differently from the red version, for starters, remove the drum machines and use a live drummer. The drum machine gives the same feel to all songs. Maybe it would have also benefited to have the vocals done separately, UCAP style.

The Red version is the main release: released separately, as one CD and also DVD-A with 5.1 Surround Sound.

2 different versions given out at the price of one, is of course an attempt to try to minimize illegal downloads: you get two discs for the price of one, so why bother..? - Nowadays, it's a bit different... people download movies in just a couple of minutes... recently, Nightwish offered a bonus instrumental version disc... also, many artists release bonus DVDs with "Making of the album" documentaries... but many people in the music industry do claim, that the CD is already dead... sad.

Yup, that's true and pretty sad too. But why do they still sell the cd's for 25 euro's here (about 37 CAD I believe). Because it's quite some money for me. I still buy original cd's, buy my classmates never do, because it's too expensive. Maybe they should lower the prices, so more people will be able to buy it.

Maybe they should lower the prices, so more people will be able to buy it.

They can't. Not with the expense rate they currently have.

...if you look at the price of a CD, when they first came out, they were at 17 Euros... three times the price of a vinyl album. As more CDs would be sold, the industry said back then, they would eventually reduce the price as manufacturing costs would go down due to an increase in the unit numbers... guess what..? - It never happened - only the manufacturing costs went down.

The profit margins just got bigger and bigger... they should've gone forward before the consumer technology catched up... and now, the industry will reap what they have sown...

I never knew that. I work in a shop that sells clothes. We once had these jackets. Original price: 80 euro's. Nobody wanted to buy them, and eventually we sold them for 10 euro's per jacket, and we still made profit (that's what my boss told me). I hoped this would count for cd's aswell. But unfortunately....

The stupid thing is, that like the Anny Murray album. I'd love to have it, but it's not for sale here, so yeah, I'm gonna download the songs. I've got no choice...

CDs are very cheap here now. The main reason was that supermarkets started selling them below £10 and everyone started buying their music from there. Then we got internet shops like play.com which pushed prices further down. And of course now there's downloads. Now the record shops have had to match it to compete, its all good for us customers. CDs were around £15 ten years ago, now they are half that price. I tried to buy a CD single recently from a well know record shop and I struggled to get it even though it was in the charts, people just aren't buying them as much.

They still are in HMV. That is one of the worst shops for CD's. I hate buying things from there. I only shopped in there recently beause I had vouchers. They are complaining that they're losing money, but they still want to rip people off. I'd love to see them fold. We used to have a Music Zone in tow. I could get a CD in there for £7-£10 but the same CD in HMV was £16-20 :scowl:

Your right Matty they suck in HMV, the staff all seem to have a bad unhelpful attitude, the sooner that Crap record shop goes out of business the better. I only buy my albums from supermarkets or online, I bought a Paul Weller Album for £5 online new, if I had bought it in HMV it would of probably cost me £14.99.

The US version seems to sound good in ways when compared to our European release;)The European release sounded a bit to much like Abba, not saying I don't like Abba but I would prefer Shania to sound more Western.

Well some say when Shania moved away from North America to Europe she has been influenced and became more Europeanized actions and style. UP shows that a lot, music, wardrobe, ect.

Maybe a little out of touch with actions and style of NA? :dunno:

Me too! lol!!! My "WTF is this??" was kind of a positive one though. I was laughing insanely because it's so weird....I really like it though. :]

hahaha that was my exact reaction when I heard the whole album for the first time. I just got it for Christmas and when I played it I broke out laughing because it sounds so wierd to hear it on songs you're so used to hearing one way. I like most of the songs though, it sounds better than I thought it would.

I think your right, that's most likely the reason. But, maybe she just wanted a change ... you know, trying something new and see how it goes. Which, isn't a bad thing. If alot of people tended to like it that way, she'd probably start to have that shown in her music more, but if the fans didn't really like it all that much, then she probably won't do it again.

Shania said she wanted more international success and that she got with UP. I would say that album did a whole lot better as a whole with international fans than it did with North American fan. Much more claim internationally and while TWIM and COO did very well internationally, they were mega hits in North America compared to UP. She's got the European mentality now, her music, her style, wardrobe, more open with her sexiness-sex appeal, and how she goes about her business.

Change isn't bad but I would like if she warmed up to us over here a little more especially long time fans of hers who heard her on country radio first. I know that's an unpopular feel around here since most fans on this site came after the big pop crossover success. Just sharing thoughts.

Up! is Shania's most successful album internationally. I know this because it got me to become a fan and because a whole lot of people started loving her since UP!
Here, Shania's most famous song is "ka-ching!"

I seem to of read that the UP album in the UK was not as successful as Come On Over, so I think the UP album must have been more successful in other European countries, There was only one major hit from the UP album in the UK and two less successful hits. The Come On Over Album had far more hit singles from it in the UK and was the album that made Shania big in the UK.

I heard about Ka-Ching being a big hit in Europe. Ka-Ching wasn't as big over here (unfortunately). I don't know why because I thought it was a great song.

Ka-Ching! was released in Europe as a single & got lots of airplay. Mercury Nashville (UMG) feared that the irony of the song, would be misunderstood in NA. hah.

She should attempt to conquer China with her next release - that would be rather interesting.

John - ;)

I hope the same as you.

Come On Over was the mega hit for Shania all over the world and all those singles. Untouchable at this point. Although the one thing I notice with UP it seems to have done a lot better in Europe and Asia than it did in North America. The only big hit here was FAFA. It did well on both the country and pop charts. IGGG had some mediocre success, but I don't hear it played much on radio anymore after its initial run on radio. Also UP, SNJAPF, and IOHWIB had mediocre success and I rarely hear them. Those were the songs that were released in North America. From what I gathered the songs released in Europe had more lasting impressions with radio and listeners.

I still hear a lot more of the TWIM and COO singles compared to the UP singles besides FAFA. That was the one smash hit. Of course with the conglomerate takeover of radio in recent years, I have a much more unfavorable opinion of radio programmers and I don't think Shania cares to play that political favoritism game. The radio gig is mostly a fixed game nowadays.

Let's just hope for good things to come with this next album for people here and for people over your way. That it will blow our socks off. :)

This next album will be a make or brake for Shania, but she has done a lot of good music in the past so Shania won't be to bothered, but just because it might not be successful does not mean it will be a bad album, in fact it might be her most interesting album, but might not be commercial and that would probably be more interesting to me.

I agree with that. And I don't think this next album will be as commercial as material in her past. She will have a lot of pressure from the industry with this long of a wait. There will be some people who will want to pick it apart. I think the next album will have that personal touch which could very well make it her best album in a sense that a commercial album differs from. And in someway it can also possibly catch a few buys that appreciate those kind of efforts. We will see.
