Autumn (or fall as we call it) is spectacular in eastern Canada. The maples turn red. It was a pretty good year for colour here in Ottawa although much of the rest of the province had been so dry all summer that the colours were very muted. The leaves turn colour and fall earlier here than in the UK. I took the following pictures on Oct. 16. I did not travel out into the countryside. These are all in our neighbourhood. The pix are not spectacular but they do give an idea of the reds we enjoy.

Great Pictures Roger, thanks for sharing, I find Autumn colours even more beautiful than Spring colours, I tend to take more photos of the flowers in the spring, but I always take lots of photos of the bluebell woods in the spring.

I have fond memories of bluebells in the English woods as a child. We don't have them here. We do have trilliums growing wild in our bush in spring.

When I was a child I spent my childhood mainly in Belfast so I did not see many bluebells, but nowadays I live near a bluebell wood in south east England and in the spring the woods are a big sea of bluebells and ferns, it's like heaven when walking through the bluebell woods with all the birds singing.

Thanks Roger, I will be taking some more photos this weekend.
This is now the time of year when I don't take pictures any more, except of course for family photos. The weather here is always unattractive at this time - cold, cloudy, no leaves left, even the grass starts to go dormant and loses its green. Then comes winter and the snow which can be gorgeous but taking photos in the real cold is hard work. Have to keep the camera warm under my coat. I can't work the camera with mitts or gloves on yet if I go barehanded, my fingers go numb almost immediately. I have become tired of working so hard in winter for good photos that I just don't bother much any more.

When I do most of my photos in the summer I take them early in the morning of late in the day about 2 hours before it gets dark to when it's just about dark, the lights is a lot better for photos.

Absolutely right. When the sun is high in the sky, the light is harsh and the contrast can be too strong if there is shadow. When the sun is low, it is a softer, yellower light and the added shadows give definition and depth to the picture.
