During all the flooding in Mexico, Alex and his mom have lost everything. They're both safe, but obviously it will take them a while to rebuild and resettle.

Please keep him and his mom in your prayers. Thanks. :)

Alex- we miss you and we're here waiting for you! :hugs: Stay strong.

Here's an article on the flooding:

Where is Alex at right now?

A shelter or home or something 100 km outside of his hometown. He says that it's raining where he is, but not flooding....yet, anyway. Hopefully the rain will stop.

OMG that is so sad. I will be contacting the Red Cross to help.

Canadian Red Cross
Mexico Floods

Torrential rains over the past week—some of the worst in Mexico’s history—have caused devastating flooding, impacting more than one million people in Tabasco. Tens of thousands of homes are damaged or destroyed, crops are ravaged and livestock has drowned. At least 90 per cent of the city of Villahermosa, the state capital, is under water and 80 per cent is without electricity and running water.
The Mexican Red Cross is very well prepared for emergencies and immediately sprang into action to help those in need. Some 6,000 Mexican Red Cross staff and volunteers have been working round the clock since the flooding began. To date, the Mexican Red Cross has mobilized 450 tonnes of relief supplies, consisting mostly of food parcels and clothing as well as 225 tonnes of bottled water. An additional 400 tonnes of food parcels are on their way to the affected area.

For those that have lost contact with a relative, a special webpage has been launched for people in Mexico and throughout the world to help restore contact. The page is in Spanish and English and can be accessed at www.familylinks.icrc.org.

People in the disaster area who have internet access can register on the International Committee of the Red Cross site as a means of announcing that they are safe. Those without internet access who wish to register can do so by giving their personal details to Mexican Red Cross volunteers, who will enter them on the site. Those who are looking for loved ones in the disaster area and cannot find their names on the websites mentioned above can register them on the ICRC site.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies has issued an emergency appeal of $973,000 to assist the Mexican Red Cross in providing emergency relief to those affected by the floods. The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), quickly committed $100,000 to assist the Red Cross with its relief and recovery efforts.

Canadians wishing to help may give online at www.redcross.ca, call 1-800-418-1111 or contact their local Canadian Red Cross office. The 24-hour toll free line accepts Visa, MasterCard and American Express. Cheques should be made payable to Canadian Red Cross, earmarked “Mexico Floods” and mailed to Canadian Red Cross National Office, 170 Metcalfe Street, Suite 300, Ottawa, Ontario, K2P 2P2.

In-kind donations of food, clothing and other items, while well intentioned, are not the best way to help those in need. There are tremendous processing and transportation costs involved in shipping these items to beneficiaries. Local purchases of food and clothing are more culturally appropriate and effective. Red Cross supplies can be purchased in the immediate area, thereby reducing transportation costs. Cash transfers to the affected region provide the optimum flexibility to our Red Cross colleagues so they can meet the most urgent needs.

Immediate needs are for clean water and non-food items that will help prevent outbreaks of waterborne disease. Cholera and dengue thrive in flood conditions and disproportionately affect children.

What Alex and other Mexicans have dealt with is unfathomable for us in our cozy homes. I am blessed. I own a lot of things, and this year I am asking that my friends and family, instead of purchasing gifts for me, I have asked that they donate money to the Red Cross in lieu of the flooding victims in Mexico.

I hope Alex is okay and knows that people DO care and are thinking of him at this time.

I saw this i was doubting if it was alex me or other alex, god jenna thanks for doing this, I'm hardly rejoining to the forums and Im watching a lot of surprises of everyone, I never imagine all of you worry about me and here in Mexico. But indeed it was the worst thing I've ever happened in mylife, and I don't really want to live it again, you can't imagine what it feels to see your home with 4 meters of water, then you lost everything is just some hours, and how to re start over? But i'm finally good and i've been passing by some sickness because of this and my mom too, but i'm fine now, just a cold bothering me but it pass quick.

Now I hope to be here again like before:D
