Saskatchewan is the middle province of Canada's three prairie provinces. It has an area of 651,900 km˛ (251,700 mi˛) and a population of 985,386 (Saskatchewanians) as of July 1, 2006. (I do believe an updated total has it above a million now.) Most of its population does live in the southern half of the province though.

Here's a map of the province, with several cities, etc. to hopefully help you visualize some of the places I'll be talking about and where they are located.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/SevenGup/Saskatchewan/Maps/Saskmap.gif

Saskatchewan became a province in 1905 with Regina as the capital city. It is the only province in Canada with entirely man-made boundaries....in other words there are no lakes, rivers, mountains, etc that make up the border.

It's claim to fame is that it's the easiest province to draw:p

I think they might be right about that:funny:

The province's name comes from the Saskatchewan River, whose name comes from its Cree designation: kisiskāciwani-sīpiy meaning "swift flowing river".

The North Saskatchewan River is a glacier-fed river flowing east from the Canadian Rockies to central Saskatchewan. It is one of two major rivers that join to make up the Saskatchewan River.

This is where it all begins.....from the Glacial Flatts in Banff National Park in Alberta.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/SevenGup/Saskatchewan/Bodies%20of%20Water/GlacialFlatsNSR.jpg

Originating in southern Alberta, the South Saskatchewan River is formed by the confluence of the Bow and Oldman Rivers near a place called Grassy Lake. It passes by Medicine Hat, Alberta and on into Saskatchewan.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/SevenGup/Saskatchewan/Bodies%20of%20Water/intro2_e.jpg

It flows north through Saskatoon and joins the North Saskatchewan River east of Prince Albert at the Saskatchewan River Forks — thus forming the Saskatchewan River.

Especially since it was going strong and how many shows about Canada get broadcast abroad. :( I would've loved to have Shania on that show, I thought maybe it would've happened. Maybe they could sneak her in there for the last season. They've had everybody else on the show from the Prime Minister to Keifer Sutherland, why not Shania.

Corner Gas movie could be in the pipeline.

By BILL HARRIS, SUN MEDIA

The very real possibility of a Corner Gas movie means the TV series won't end in apocalyptic fashion next year.

"We've talked about doing a movie, which I like the idea of, and CTV seems to like the idea of, so I couldn't end it with a meteor hitting the gas station or something," said series creator and co-star Brent Butt.

On Thursday, Butt announced that the sixth season of Corner Gas, which begins taping next month and will air in 2008-09, will be its last.

So does Butt already know how the TV series is going to end?

"Not in terms of details, but what I do know is, I don't want us to write toward a specific thing," Butt said. "I want the final episode to be like any other episode, really, and nothing will have changed. I want the viewer to be able to imagine that life goes on in Dog River the way it always has, it's just that the cameras have stopped rolling.

"One of the themes of the show is that Dog River doesn't really change, and that's the way it should end."

So, Brent, could it end in a diner (the Ruby, obviously), to the sounds of Journey's Don't Stop Believing, like the finale of The Sopranos?

"Well, that might be a possibility," Butt said.

Unfortunately, Butt can't wind up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette, as occurred in the brilliant finale of Newhart. Pleshette died earlier this year..

"And I don't have a previous series to tap into, either," Butt said. "But maybe I'll end it with Bob Newhart. He's still around."

http://www.winnipegsun.com/Entertainment/Television/2008/04/12/5264751-sun.html
That would be sweet and with Shania in it would make it awesome. She could get lost and end up in Dog River, Hank thinks all her songs are written about him or something. The whole time he wants an Autograph and she's freaked out because she thinks he weird and the whole episode is Shania trying to get away from him.

Cool thanks Seanny:D

I like the idea of ending the last show the same as the rest of them. That's how it ought to be. The show is supposed to be about life in Saskatchewan, and it doesn't change a whole lot....neither should the last episode.

I'm sure that having a team and not having a place to play is something people in Halifax know well, people in Ottawa are about to find that same thing out aswell.

No doubt! Who seriously wants to go around giving people jobs and incomes, especially in Atlantic Canada. Working is way too much of a hassle. :p

Long ago huge herds of bison roamed the plains. The Plains Indians and Metis people hunted the animals for food and clothing. They camped on the banks of a creek where they killed many of the bison. The bones were laid in a large pile. So the site became known as Pile O' Bones.

In the late 1800s a railroad was built across Canada so the country could be connected from east to west. The first train came to Pile O' Bones in 1882. The site was just a tiny village. It was renamed Regina in honor of Queen Victoria. Regina means "queen".

Wascana Centre is a 9.3 square kilometre (2,300 acre) park built around Wascana Lake.

The Saskatchewan Science Centre opened in 1989. Located on the north bank of Wascana Lake, it occupies the site of a converted former power station.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/SevenGup/Saskatchewan/Regina/Buildings/Saskatchewan%20Science%20Centre/SaskatchewanScienceCentre.jpg

Visitors to the centre are encouraged to perform experiments, ask questions and handle the exhibits including simulated space travel and watching their voices be reproduced on a computer screen.

You can send a balloon up into the air, stand inside a giant bubble, watch how cotton candy is made (and maybe eat some too!) with over 150 hands-on educational exhibits, games and activities, plus stage show demonstrations and much more including....

....the Kramer IMAX Theatre which is one of only 250 IMAX Theatres in the world! :]

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/SevenGup/Saskatchewan/Regina/Buildings/Saskatchewan%20Science%20Centre/PowerhouseofDiscovery.jpg

You can watch your favourite Hollywood movie or take an adventure to a foreign land or even outer space on the incredible five-story high IMAX screen.

This is what's playing now....

Robert, in the early '70s when I was flying back to the states from Germany I sat next to a woman from Canada. We talked about the places we had seen in Europe. When she asked me if I had ever been to Canada I told her I hadn't. She said, "You're saving the best for last." These photos are like a song from a Canadian group, "How You Remind Me." Thanks for the pics.

The "Army & Navy" is a department store chain in Canada billing itself as "Canada's Original Discount Store". It currently has 6 stores in Alberta and British Columbia.

The one shown here in Regina opened in 1920 and operated for about 80 years.

http://i12.photobucket.com/albums/a208/SevenGup/Saskatchewan/Regina/Buildings/ArmyNavy.jpg

It was replaced by a building that contains a Tim Horton's :D on the main floor.

Camp Monahan provides an environment for kids age 6-16 to enjoy several activities including swimming, canoeing, crafts, archery, Christian discovery, outdoor education, fishing, sports, canoe & hiking trips, games, campfires, carnivals, daily prayer, sailboats, and help improve the counselor training program.

It's located along Katepwa Lake, near Fort Qu'Appelle, which is about an hour from Regina. I was there Sunday for their open house and took a few pictures.
