Has anyone seen the new Revlon ad with Shania on television. I have heard people say that they don't think that she should be hocking makeup and that she doesn't look great. I for one think it is perfectly fine for an entertainer to endorse a product that they believe in. Shania herself uses Revlon products, so why not? I for one think that she looks fabulous and is a great spokeswoman for the company. Besides, I am tired of seeing nothing but boring supermodels making kissy-faces at the camera. Shania definitely brings a fresher, more modern face to what would have been a dull and generic ad campaign. Anybody else feel the same? Opines please http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif

I think Shania is great in that commercial! Every time it comes on, I have to stop what I am doing to watch it!
Hi Heather,
How's your writing coming along? I wrote a 300 page family history book that's in the state library and the library rep. was quoted about it in the newspaper, as saying books like this are "a priceless treasure." But you write quite a bit smoother than I do. So you're bound to be famous. Can I have your autograph now, before it becomes too expensive and hard to get?
I didn't hear the news last Fall that Shania was going to do Revlon commercials. Being a guy, guess I wouldn't be in the market for that kind of news anyway. Now if she was gonna be in a hair coloring commercial for men with too gray hair, and who need to get something other than automatic rejections after competing with younger guys in job interviews; and the product was a gradual or partial replacement of gray, and it did NOT include lead acetate (lead is a poison when absorbed into nervous system), THEN, I'd have paid attention pronto.
However as it was, I heard Shania's voice on TV in the next room suddenly one day and went flying in to see what was going on. The Revlon commercial was a bit surpising to me. She seems on top of the world and I wondered why she would need to persuade anybody about a commercial product. On the other hand, it is kind of a natural for her, given her song "Feel Like A Woman," and that she uses the company products anyway, and as you say, she looks nice too. Not too many of those models can bring as familiar and pleasing a voice to go with a pleasing face, not to mention the depth of emotions and gift of expression to have written the song. I hate to say it, but I felt that with what I know about Shania's background and all the spirits she's boosted with her music, and the people's she's helped, I initially felt there was a bit of a gap between the quality of character in her music and the quality of character of the product in the commercial. I don't know much about Revlon's image in the field of marketing so I'm kind of just guessing. But that's how I felt. After I thought about it some, I remember seeing Michael Jordan and all these other stars promoting products. So I had to make a mental adjustment that maybe what was good for the gander was equally good for the goose. How's that for some skewered prose?
RJ
Hey, she's beautiful, she can be a spokesperson for a makeup company, it's no big deal...it's not like she's spending all her time endorsing some product or the other...it really doesn't have anything to do with the music. It's just fun!!
Who cares, about if you do a comercial or not??? I mean how can these interupt any other things you do??? If I had my way Id have a sation on my cable called Shania TV. All the comercials would have her in them, food car etc etc. Aall the shows would star her, Soaps, prime time, talk shows, etc etc. Ok so sort corney, but just trying to get a point accross.

Thank you very much RJ http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif I am writing what I hope to be my first novel and it is turning out to be one of the most frustrating yet, exciting experiences in my life! But, I am taking small baby steps with it and I hope it yields something special. As for the autograph I would be glad to send u one when I become the Shania Twain of fiction lol http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gifThanx for the kind words http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif
Heather,
Your very welcome.
I have a book called Writing the Natural Way by Gabriele Lusser Rico. Every night before I go to bed, I read and highlight 1 or 2 pages. It has lots of right brain techniques for releasing one's expressive powers, then connecting with the left brain to create dynamic tension by sorting, organizing, quantifying, verifying etc. I just started on it a few days ago. It proposes that creating, developing and refining ideas can be very exciting and enjoyable.
I love writing in recent years; but I've always been a lousy writer. English is not my native language. I don't know what is. My ideas come in pictures, hunches, concepts and impressions, not words. As a result, it takes me a month of sundays and a semi truck load of words to get half an idea expressed. I use up more of poor ol Moderator Matt's storage memory for this forum than any half dozen normal members combined, each of whom does twice as many posts as me.
One of my coworkers has a patent on something that could approach a universal language. He's saying it could be equivalent to the back of the Rosetta Stone. The first language he learned himself, was from the other side of the planet from us. But he speaks fluent English also. He discovered this new language base by accident, working with dyslexic children. I've been advising him on some limited aspects to get started with marketing, organizing and internet website design. He has several levels of ways to learn it. The easiest is a simple board game that children can play. I have 2 or 3 of the lower level versions. Could play it alone, but he says it's more fun and effective to have a partner. It might grow into something really important in due time.
P.S. I've encountered two acronyms in recent days that are unfamiliar to a northerner like me. Can you help me out?
One is "lol" or some version of it. Another is IMHO. In the context I got it the last one: 'Alas, this has always been so, IMHO.' I think I know what both mean in part, but not in full, nor am I sure of the acutal words they stand for.

I'd be happy to explain RJ http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif
lol simply means "laughing out loud"
IMHO is "In my humble opinion"
When I first got online I had absolutely no idea what these things were and when I found out how simple the meanings were I simply laughed or lol and took them up http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif
Also, RJ if u really love to write keep then at it! The desire to write is just as important as having "talent" (which I am certain that you do). The more u write the better u get. I still have problems writing comfortably and am never fully satisfied with my work. Oh well, I guess I should give myself a pat on the back for realizing that I am not Emily Bronte and that I have much to learn http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif

I think Shania is way prettier than all those models. She will definitely sell the product Revlon by using her celebrity status. She's pretty with or without make-up. I haven't seen the ad on telly, but I have seen billboard like things at the chemist where all the make-up is. She is gorgeous.
Shania apparently doesen't like her looks. I read it in a magazine where she was interviewed. Oh well, everyone else does!!! http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif
Heather,
I'm impressed you came up with that info so quickly. I know some folks with pretty high IQ's who couldn't have touched it.
We each have our strengths and weaknesses I guess.
What's great is when we can combine those constructively together and create a whole that's far greater than the individual parts.
It sounds as if that's what happened between Shania and Mutt. Their partnership may be so good it's one in a hundred million.
I mentored a young lady in my office for a while. Eventually she got promoted ahead of me. Now I can leave, and know the place is in good hands.
I'd be curious to see some of your work and offer some encouragement. Can't guarantee I'll be any help, but willing to try. If you want to connect through the chat section on this site, or some other way, feel free to let me know. I finally figured out that there appears to be a big difference between the Chat forum and Chat section of this website.
I've used chat on PC bulletin boards a while back; but have not done it on the internet with my 1996 computer.
Heather,
P.S. I have a rough draft of some lyrics for a song about Shania. It's not at all in good form. But it's got great feeling and some aspiring ideas behind it.
Justin was interested to see it and maybe share some ideas, since he is studying music formally and plays. So I sent it to him today.
You're welcome to take a peek at it if you promise not to faint at such awkward poetry. It's still in first writing, after my just throwing ideas onto paper. Haven'thad time to edit at all yet. But I will. Can't let a fun and fulfilling thing like that go to waste for long.

Ice838:
I totally agree with you. Although, I'd rather have Shania radio where all they played was Shania songs. Shania TV might get a little boring.
