Member age, gender, locale

Since we've recently merged with Shania.org, there is a mix of new members.

Maybe it would help to share some basic info about ourselves. I know I've put my foot in my mouth on occasion and made mistaken assumptions about other members' gender, perspective, or intentions and hurt people's feelings.

There is a topic posted by Timminite2 where a good number of members as of March or April, shared info about themselves to help other members know who they were talking to.

The topic is something like "You could if you wanted to, but not need to..."

It's no longer visible on the chronological list of posted topics that goes back only the defaulted 20 days. You have to set your "GO" box to 45 days or more to find it. It may be easier to just use the "Search" box and enter Timminite2.

Yeah... I wish the Member profiles would be able to have more info. such as age and gender. Maybe thats something Matt could add in the profiles. You can also see whos new to the forums. Under their names when they post or reply to a message it will say either 'Junior Member' or 'Member'. Junior Members are the "new-comers" and after they post/reply a specific amount of messages then they change to a Member. Adding to what Armando said, the message board at livedaily.com/talk is similar to this one, only it has more info under the screen name: it has location, number of posts, member since which month and year, member status (elite member, senior member, etc.), and stars indicating your member status.

I really like those information. I do wonder about these things, and it would be nice to see this information all ready there without us having to post it and have to look back to this topic to see a person's age and location is.

Please pardon my stray synapse. But have you ever seen "The Winnipeg Wolf"? That was one of many great children's stories in a large book my family had in the 1950's where I grew up in northern Wisconson; and I've been looking for it unsuccessfully. The book included Black Beauty, The Twelve Dancing Princesses and a number of similar works, each with multiple illustrations drawn in black & white that stimulated vivid imagination. I can find most of the other works, but nothing on "The Winnipeg Wolf."

Well, now, at 350 population Coral is bigger than Hell, or Paradise. So you've got something going for you. (For non Michiganders, I swear, those last 2 are not cusswords, but names of towns in our state.)

When you were in Trufant you were almost in my back yard. We own a 40,3miles from Trufant and 3miles from Coral, where we raise a few horses.

I agree with you garyphyllis. Shania's music and personality reaches all ages. I read a post from an expectent mother who said when her baby was restless and moving alot she would play Shania's music and the baby would calm right down, and it was the only thing that worked. I guess Shania just gets to all of us!

Milliken Colorado hey? Is that relatively flat ranch &/or cattle country?

Looks like you're almost due east from Long's Peak. I'm breaking in a new pair of hiking boots for an August trip to Colorado. Gonna do some high altitude hiking, among other things.

We did Yellowstone and Grand Teton Parks last summer, including some glorious hiking among the sunshine, puffy white clouds and spring flowers at 10,000 feet in the Rendezvous Peaks on south end of Tetons near Jackson Hole. Then whitewater rafting south of Jackson. What a blast!

We haven't made final plans yet which places in Colorado, but Rocky Mtn Nat'l Park is one possibility. Crested Butte and mountain biking is one very likely part ot trip due to college age nephews. My high school age niece and my brother, and I will be doing high altitude hiking.

I'm pretty fit, jogging 4-6 miles every other day plus weight lifting etc other days. But I'm getting on in years, despite somebody's contention on this website that age doesn't matter much. So I'm eager to tackle a gentler type of 14'r this year and see how it goes. If successful, may practice on a few others and move on to Alaska and Denali in a year or two. If worst comes to worst, and I can't get my gang to try climbing a 14r, I'll rent a car and drive the paved highway to the top of Mt Evans to see what it's like at 14,264 feet.

Climbing/hiking Class I peaks involves only hiking, with a good pair of legs, footgear and lungs. Class II involves a little scrambling, needing arms and hands to help. Class III involves a lot of scrambling and some carry a rope. Class IV involves frequent rope & equipment. And Class V is the most difficult.

I have a good book on order that will describe all the major Colorado peaks and their difficulty (by Gerry Roach). Hope to find a II or gentle III among the 14'rs somewhere.

My co-traveling relatives are not eager to try the thin air at 14,000+ feet yet. But they're younger, and have more years to work at it. Also, they got competitive last year and burned themselves out racing each other at 10,000 feet. If they use common sense, and take a cooperative, gentle pace, and spend a few days acclimatizing to the higher air (eg spending a few days at towns/camps at 7,000-11,000 feet, they would have no trouble going higher most likely. Tho 10-20% of people do get high altitude sickness, and it's hard to predict beforehand always.

I heard someplace fleetingly, about those races to top of Pike's Peak. Wasn't sure quite what mode it was. Heard something about race on bikes, a foot race, or a marathon and got em all mixed up. Any of those ways has gotta be kinda hard on the ole differential tho.

Heck, two of the doctors in my office had serious trouble adjusting that quickly to the low air pressure (and the resulting decreased oxygen transfer thru cell membranes into higher pressure blood system), just riding the cog train up to top of Pike's Peak. And one of em had been a climber in the Himalayas, a quite a bit higher at one time. Tho he knew to go up slow when he went that high.

Think I'll pass on your offer to try racing up it on foot for now. Maybe after they replace/regenerate most of my body parts.

Boy, sure is hard to find this second page on this thread. The page numbers are in such small print (and happen so rarely) that they're not noticeable unless you know to look for them.

We have a whole fleet of doctors in my office. About a half dozen are from your side of the globe, some Indian, some Kashmir, some Chinese, some Korean, etc.

It's fun to have lunch sometimes with those from different places. I especially like the one who's a former mountain climber from the Himalayas, and who gives me tips for my climbing trips.

Sounds like you're better stocked on Shania music than I am, even tho she grew up just across the US/Canadian northwoods border from me.

How'd you get to know about her in East Java? Was it her Australian connection, the Internet, commercial store music, news or something else?

And if I've committed some unintentional cultural miscue, please forgive me. I grew up more with milk cows than with people, and so learned from the best, about stepping on people's toes. Maybe I could design my own unique line dance.

I live in Seattle, the most beautiful place in the US. I was born in Orlando, FL, grew up in a little town on Long Island called Sayville, went to college at the University of Massuchusetts, have my own engineering business, have lived in Seattle since 1974.
I just celebrated my 56th birthday on March 15, came home from work and lo and behold there was a Shania special on TV (perfect birthday present). I'm lucky enough to have been one of the successful bidders in an auction for an autographed Shania calendar. (Hello Betsy if your checking in).

I am patiently waiting for Shania's next release and tour so that I can see her in person. Just love the thought about her pregnancy.

Wow, just scanned through all the posts on this topic, amazing. I wonder who still posts here? I noticed a couple people from Colorado, one from a small town, Milliken, just southeast of where I live, ie, Loveland, Colorado. Then I noticed that the post was from a century or two back and thought, my lord, this person is probably way older then 15 by now, heck, with the length of this post, she may well be 51 and still the KoolestFanShania ever knew. ( or didn't know as the kase may be.

I saw someone coming to hike in the Rockies, and was about to invite them to stop by for some tea or something on their way up the mountain, (Loveland is a gateway town to Rocky Mountain National Park,) and then realized that the post was made by someone long before the park geologically existed. Ow well, guess I will have tea by my self for awhile. I'm gary, ya, that's male, I am about a half century old, and plan to live at least another century from today. That's what I keep saying any how.
