Shania.org Closing..

[Longshot]

Just to give everyone plenty of advance warning: Shania.org will be closing most likely at the end of June. I intend to give full control of the domain to Matt and hopefully find a way to integrate Shania.org's content into a new 800x600 Shania.net design. The new site would therefore provide the best of both worlds with Matt retaining overall control and me contributing to its content.

My main reason for doing this is that I can no longer afford to keep running the site and once I leave university I wont have the time to run a full website. I just wanted to ask everyone's opinions on this. I`m not expecting a major response or anything since most people here seem to prefer shania.net, thats why I`ve decided to hand things over to Matt and work with him.

Comments on this, and what you would like to see in a combined Shania.net/Shania.org are welcome.

Sorry to here this Phil! I understand how difficult it is to keep a site like that going! I'm certainly glad to hear that you will continue to be involved! I dont see why not. Hopefully Matt will be able to fit in everything that is currently on Shania.org so nothing should be lost.

I have other personal reasons for needing to close the site, I have a lot to try and work out right now and that is likely to take me quite a while... I`ll still stay on the forums though..

I remember thinking once that this might be a future step that you would take, since you’ve shared the domain with Matt for some time now. However I agree if you don’t have the time to take care of the site it might be the best idea. Shania.org and shania.net are some of the best Shania sites on the www and that implies keeping a high standard regarding the amount and quality of information presented. I like this idea better than to go a site that is updated once a month and that presents some news 2 weeks after they first broke out. It would also be a shame if you wouldn’t take care of things and just “quit the business”, I’m glad that’s not the case.

I’m not so skeptical about this as others I’ve read on this topic, it could actually be a better idea to have the 2 sites merged with 2 webmasters, regardless of the circumstances that led to that merge. You and Matt have the experience, skills and contacts to make this whole thing better, there is no doubt about it. But please don’t fight on the design, please.lol

Yes, is sad. Shania.org was one of the first Shania Twain sites I visited way back when I first came online. Sorry to see it go. Always loved the news section best with it "get the latest here" reporting style. Yes, I loved the reporting thing. The CNN of Shania websites.

But hey now, take heart, maybe you'll make a strong comeback someday. Things are a little slow right now, but if Shania makes a comeback, you could be the Shania Twain News Center.

I`m feeling a bit better now compared with when I last posted. I`ll keep Shania.org going until Matt comes up with a design for the new site that we both are happy with. I`m not sure what format the new news page will take yet but we have a few ideas and since you seem to like how the news is reported on shania.org's current one I`ll put that idea to Matt for the new site.

Everything thats on Shania.org should be transferred to the new site April so dont worry. I am just too busy now to be able to update the site as often as I should so I figured rather than let it slowly slide downhill I`d work with Matt on combining both our sites.

I too also found shania.org as one of the best Shania sites along with shania.net. I was disappointed with her "official" site's slowness in reporting Shania news and I found shania.com's page design very congested.

Longshot, you have done a terrific job and it is such a shame for all of us to not see more of your work. I hope you and Matt are able to collaborate to develop the supersite that's an even better place for fans to gather.
