View Full Version : How Rude
I had to change my avatar...Because of other poeple's ignorance. Betcha anything I could put a cross with an actually r3eligious meaning here and that be ok because that wouldn't offend anyone would it? :furious:
That's it, i'm done, I ain't changing anything else til I choose to :furious:
You know some people find that offensive and that's the reason you wanted to use it.
I was not :furious: have I ever tried to intentionally offend anyone here before?
yeah, what was up with that pinnacle?
talk about me, jeeze..
I don't even know what yours is. Looks like a skull ring I got.
And it's called a pentagram. And a better one is on my site now.
Nooo no. when you got all huffy about me quoting Hitler.
Even when it wasn't meant to be a hard quote, the thing where we can't have our guns taken away blah blah blah..
Oh that, I thought you meant your pic.
That was totally different though, when you know what a pentagram is and what Satanism is not what you're led to believe there is nothing wrong with a pentagram.
Meanwhile who in their right mind would approve of Hitler and you're quote wasn't the best choice cuz it could've meant a number of things.
Why post it at all if you know some may find it offensive?
Because I figured it would be the 3 people or so who get offended by everything.
Now your lil' red man can make sense.
what's going on????
 :uhh: :scowl:
A few night's ago I changed my avatar to a pentagram and Matt removed it cuz he didn't know what it means or what the real meaning of what he thought it was is so as a comprimise I posted it on my site which i'm pretty sure is still listed in my profile so it's kinda still here

Could you explain what the pentagram you have on your site means to you Slaney? Just curious...

Well I didn't see the pentagram, but a standard pentagram is a symbol of witchcraft which I personally don't mind! However an inverted pentagram is a symbol of Satanism which bothers me! I personally would find a cross offensive and inappropriate on a multi cultural/religious board!
I have no problem with Matt's decision, however I would hope that it is universal, covering all religious symbols! That to me would be appropriate! JMHO

If this is a "multi cultural/religious board" than why can't we show all religious symbols? If a person wants to show a cross, that's fine, if they want to show Buda. . that's fine too. I think all religions should be welcomed.
From a (U.S) legal standpoint, Satanism is a religion and it's protected by the first amendment. It only becomes a crime when those members break the law, either in sacrafice, mutilations, or other killings.
I'm not into Satanism ;), but I've studied this area enough in school. Just thought I'd let you all know that. :D
Basically, if we allow one religion to be posted, shouldn't we allow all of them?

Very good question!!
I personaly don't worship *cough* Satan. But who am I or ANYBODY else to judge people on their OWN beliefs & values?
I wouldn't be offended! I believe in God & that's all I need to know about to NOT be offended. (If that makes sense)

A pentagram ain't a religious symbol. It's a symbol used to ward of werewolves. It has nothing to do with worshiping the Devil.
being Satanic has nothing to do with worshiping the Devil either, being Satanic meansd you don't believe there is either god or a Devil. It's on my site cuz Matt wouldn't let me have it here cuz he didn't know what it is or what anything means. If people want to be hypocrtical and ignorant that ain't my problem.

I agree with what u said:) I am currently taking a Law and Ethics course and we have had a lot of heated discussions about religion . I think it will always be an arena for debate because religious belief is something that is deeply personal for so many people. I personally don't get offended by other people's differing beliefs (though in my opine Satanism should be obliterated from this planet) so I have never understood why some people get their pants in a bunch when others want to discuss religion. It's a big part of people's lives so it deserves to be expressed and discussed. I may look at Slaney's pentagram and think it's weird, but hey, it's just an avatar and life goes on. Just like if I wanted to post an avatar of a Cross and quote John 3:16 in my signature, it's a personal choice and no one should take offense. But, I understand Matt's concern, there are people that might mistake it for an inverted pentagram.

Ok apparently there is some religious stuff to go with it too...I'll stick with it's original Werewolf meaning though...

You're right. Many people get offended by seeing or hearing other people's beliefs.
I think all religions are fine, and should be respected even if you don't believe in them. There are so many different interpretations of the Bible, therefore numerous religions will exist.
I believe in Jesus, but if another person doesn't . . that's fine, it's their personal choice. :)

Exactly but evenone still seems to be missing the point that even if they want to think it's Satanic, Satanism ain't a real religion, I think it's part of Wicca or something. people who worship the devil and say they're Satanic are all a bunch of Liar's are freaks who want to fit in so they do that to be "cool" and they don't even know what they're doing.

This is what I found in a dictionary under Satanic:
satanic
1. relating to Satan or the worship of Satan
2. extremely evil or cruel
I know what you mean by wicca. Many people who study wicca don't worship the devil, it kinda involves the sun, moon, and other natural things. But, I have always thought "Satanic" meant: to worship Satan. . . . the dictionary thought so too.
It's fine with me: Wicca, satanism whatever. It's your choice sista! :p

I guess it's like being an Athiest too but Satanism has nothing to do with worshipping Satan that's just what people think it means. I'll go to the library and get that video again someday to see if it was mentioned in the Wicca stuff.

Do you have a dictionary handy? Look up the word "Satanic" and tell me what it says.
Who have you been getting your information from? I think somebody is trying to pull a fast one on ya.
The root "ism" means: "a system or belief". Therefore "Satanism" means a belief in Satan. ;)
I looked "Satanism" up in the dictionary and it means: The worship of Satan. :uhh:
I got it staight from a documentary on Wicca, occult and Satansim. They were talking about being Satanic and saying how it doesn't mean worshiping the Devil. That is the modern day meaning, it's not the original.

Oh my *skeptical look*. . . . I thought maybe that's where you got it.
O.k. dear. . . . believe what you want. :p
I'm believing what it really is. one else can believe what they think it is and no matter what you want to believe it is there's still nothing wrong with it.

O.k. . . that's fine. :)
Just please be careful. I'm not an expert on this subject, but I know alot of "religious groups" out there try to brain wash young people.
I'm not saying your book is trying to brain wash you or anything, but please be careful.
I think it's fun and educational to learn about different beliefs, but remember not to stray from who you are. ;)
That's totally who I am. I don't believe there's a god but I don't believe there's a little red man with worns and red pyjamas either. Somehow niether one seems believable to me.

I agree with your first post 100%! That was actually the point I was trying to make without ticking anyone off!
Just for the record I believe in Wicca, and it does NOT have anything to do with Satanism! It is merely classified with them, because it is a religion which has been supressed for many years! They group Wicca, Satanism and the accult together out of ignorance! :scowl:
I think that any belief should be accepted as long as it is not impossed on others! (ie. You are commiting a sin, you will go to hell for that, this belief is better than that)! However I do respect Matts feelings on this and it is HIS board! JMHO

You don't believe in God, but you've written songs with his name in them??
O.k.. . . . . . . . . . . to each his own. ;)
Well it not like i'm writting gospel songs, they're more like Is There life After Love, it's just a regular song but god is mentioned...ok maybe that one is a little more gospely but that's all I can think of now ok :supwink: :p
