View Full Version : Shania on Mutt

I see that recently a lot of people are interested and make speculations about Mutt and his relationship with Shania. So I thought about letting Shania tell her own story on Mutt. This is a fragment of an article I found on shania.org. Some of you may have read it, but nevertheless I’ll post it. I could have shreded this into a few pieces and post them on the different topics that treated the particular aspects of their relationship, but I think it would be better to have it all in one place. Although it’s pretty long, it’s only a fragment. It could end some speculations about how things are going between them.

Note: R-reporter S-Shania

R: What do you call him? Robert?
S: (Guardedly) "Nope."
R: Robert John?
S: (Tersely) "Nope."
R: Robert John "Mutt"?
S: (Crossly) "Actually, I refer to him as "Mutt", but his name is Love to me."
R: And what about his mother? What does she call him?
S: "John, if anything. His mother called him John."
R: Do you accept your marriage looks pretty strange from the outside?
S: "It probably does, but if I could be like him I would. Him and I are so much the same. I respect, appreciate and envy him. He doesn't want to be famous and just because he's married a famous person, all of a sudden it's an issue. He's always been this way and that's a very admirable quality."
R: Do you get lonely, with him never being there?
S: "Oh yes, when I'm away from him, I don't like it. I hate it. I hate being away from him."
R: Do you ever go back from, say, awards ceremonies and say, Where wee you? I needed you?
S: "No. I don't take those seriously. A family members always comes with me. It's not like I'm sitting there holding my husband's hand going Am I gonna win, am I gonna win? That's so dramatic and I'm not like that. It's certainly nothing I would need my husband there for, my goodness."
R: Why isn't he in the wedding photographs?
S: "He's in there! He's in lots of them. I gave the press one without him, so that he wouldn't have to be anywhere."
R: Isn't that odd?
S: "Nooo. Being a celebrity couple is so tacky, common, corny and embarrassing to him and I totally understand it. What the hell does it have to do with my music? Nothing."
R: What's he like?
S: (Takes a deep breath so deep it almost sucks up the Claridge's string quartet) "You'd love him. Everybody who knows him loves him. He loves good conversation; he's a very intelligent person; he reads a lot; he's a real history buff; he loves fashion and likes to keep up with the latest of everything; he's very into the aesthetic of things, which is real fun for a girl when we're shopping. At the same time he's a major sports buff and he loves European football, and absolute fanatic. He's a wonderful guy. He's very gentle. People get a good vibe from him and they love him, he's very sweet and kind. There is no-one that he could not get along with. He's an avid gardener too."
R: So why keep saying you have a low sex drive then?
S: "Pah! Never said that. I may have said that I'm not a very sexual person, not the type who needs to flirt. My videos are sexy and I have quite a lot of fun with that, but I'm not a very sexual person, I'm just not like that. I like good clean fun myself. Mind you, behind closed doors, my husband finds me pretty sexy. It would be really awful if he didn't, very sad for me and 'Mutt'."
R: Would you be less successful without "Mutt"?
S: "I wouldn't say I would have made it to this level. 'Mutt' has the fairy-dust and the magic. What we have is magical so it would be ridiculous to assume otherwise. It doesn't necessarily have to be 'Mutt', but it would need somebody that understands how to work with the type of artist I am."
R: Frankly she'd rather be at their main residence, a chateau in La Tour-Du-Peilz outside Geneva beneath some alps, with Lange, their horses and a dishwasher that doubles as a cooker.
S: "'Mutt' is completely bilingual, although he never knew a word of French before he moved. He's doing so well. He is the perfect guy."

I think that is a fake interview! I think someone at www.shania.org (http://www.shania.org) wrote it!

i think some of it is fake...like the part where she says hell....the part about where she says mutt is really nice could be true cause that sounds like her but she gave some attitude in that interview..its like shes annoyed with the people..thats not her..she doesnt get annoyed in public..well not what i watch.

'What is writen and what is said don't usually come hand in hand.' (dunno where I got that from)
I've heard Shania say 'hell' in two of her songs. Honey I'm Home and There Goes The Neighborhood but I'd doubt she'd say that in an interview.

Sorry, the saying is 'What is said and what is written don't always come hand in hand.'

Hmm... I can’t say this is the kind of reaction I expected. On the scale of 1 to 10, if we consider 1 as being the rating for totally normal and unoffensive language and 10 the rating for the most offensive language possible, where would someone using the word “hell” stand?

I don’t think this was a fake interview. As I understood from the article, a big part of it was taken in a limo, as she was leaving from a show late at night. I don’t think that it’s a lot different than other interviews she has given, although everyone there including Shania admitted that she was a little tired and at moments uncomfortable. Actually I’m not surprised at all that she occasionally uses that word. I think it’s understandable. Of course in that particular sentence she might have said “what the heck” or something and the people who wrote the transcript might have misunderstood.

Come on!!!! The whole point of the post is that those who are skeptical about their relationship get to see exactly how she feels about Mutt.
Of course it's possible that she was misquoted...journalists aren't the most accurate of people http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif but that's hardly the issue.

I believe this article is genuine, I don't think Shania.org would manufacture anything as they seem to want to pass on news, not fables. They young person who almost killed themself, please seek help. Whether a counselor or a minister, you need help. I just saw a film where a fan was obsessed with Bjork and blew his head off. Bjork didn't know he was alive, let alone obsessed.
I am not saying you are obsessed, but maybe you need to get your life into some perspective. Youth is a treasure, don't throw it away. Please email me privately if you need to talk, I am no counselor but I lost a friend to suicide. It is no route for anyone! Your friend, John

I have the whole article. Personally I believe it's true. I thought it's from the
Q-magazine. It's a very long article, and is taken after a show she gave. It's very nice!

Well, I think it's rediculous to think it's fake because she said "Hell". She's 35 yrs old and I'm sure she has said alot worse!!! Plus the fact as someone pointed out she says hell in at least 1 of her songs.

I dont make up the interviews on shania.org. Shania does say things like 'hell' if she is in a really good mood. I have seen her do it on the odd interview here in the UK.

She's said Hell on all of her cd's. That's no big deal. But just...the way the whole thing went, it didn't sound like her. She sounded very cross in that interview...it's just not like her. But hey, what would I know?

I know that Shania did not say that. But anyway, I went to a Britney Spears concert tonight and it was great! I hope some day I get to see Shania in concert! The concert of Britney Spears was here in Indiana. I loved it!

As far as I remember that is a little excerpt from the interview from Q magazine and the interviewer himself said that Shania wasn't in a very smiley mood that day. If you read carefully, he says something like "the first real smile of the evening..blah blah". I will check exactly on what page and post back.
Fake interview!!! That's stupid. Shania.org is a great site, it would never do that.

What I think? I think that there's nothing wrong with saying that. It's probably everyday language where she grew up.
As long as it's not said in a 'bad' way (offendable).
They don't even consor that word on TV so what do you expect?

I figured it wouldn't be fake, because she would sue them for every penny...or I would sue them for her. Cuz that's bad & no one would do that to someone like her. ANYWAYS...I think that on her "Beginnings" CD she doesn't say Hell...but instead say's @$$. SO WHAT!?! I swear sometimes, it's just something everyone does, & it's ok.... especially Hell...it's a place, it's like saying Canada...it's a place...Heaven, Hell. NO BIGGIE! http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif

Why should we belive shania.org? How do we know it is not a fake interview? Afterall, shania.org is just a fan created site.

no im not saying its fake at all....im thinking she was not in a good mood...and im also thinking maybe her friend was visiting that week(if u know wut i mean)hehe. everyone feels bad and so she was probably not feeling good.i think all women especially get these little mood swings..hee hee......so i think she was probably in a grumpy mood.

09-06-2000, 10:58pm
oh....i get what u mean by"her friend came to visit for a week" hey thats a good point! maybe that is why she doesnt sound like shes in a good mood!ya i believe that interveiw...i mean now that i think of it she cant be happy everytime she does an interview!im not happy everyday!i get in bad moods! so i believe that was her! just cause she said hell doesnt mean shes mean..she was just sick of those rude questions probably..i would get sick if they asked me stupid questions that dont make sence..i mean mutt loves shania and everyone knows that..so they should just shut up about those questions..any shania fan would know her and mutt r deeply in love! and even if he doesnt go to awards with her he still gets his share of her..lol.

Like others have said, that interview is real and from Q magazine. I still have that mag on my shelf. You guys should read the rest of the article. It's really great. And I get the impression that the interview was tape recorded, so I doubt she was misquoted. :)

I do not recall how I found it - it was either cuz a guest was reading it and I got curious or it came up on a search for something or another.

Whaddaya mean "how did it end up here..?" Where else would it wind up?
