FRESNO, Calif. (AP) - Bubbles the hippo, one of the largest and
most established attractions at the Chaffee Zoological Gardens, has
died. She was 47.
For the past 45 years, Bubbles and her mate, Bulgy, shared a
small concrete pad, swimming pool and barn. Their 1:30 p.m.
feedings drew crowds.
Bubbles, who stood about 5 feet tall and weighed about 2,500
pounds, died Jan. 31 in a separate and private enclosure within the
hippopotamus exhibit. Her liver and kidneys were failing and she
was tired and depressed, said veterinarian Sue Lynch.
Hippos in captivity can live up to 50 years, Silva said. In the
wild, the animals survive 35 to 40 years. Lynch said Bulgy remains
in good health.

I was in California all last week and I didn't hear a thing about this.

But the story contains an item that I'll have to take some time to absorb into my personal view of life ...

I have lived longer than the average hippo ...
:nervous: :nervous: :nervous: :nervous:

What does one do with such information?
:uhh: :uhh: :uhh: :uhh:

I was going to make some inappropriate reamark like

"Gee. Sounds like a big loss, even for California."

But I decided not to do that. It might be viewed as beng insensitive to the demise of a fellow mammal and I know how some Californians feel about their fellow creatures.

Andrea, I'm glad you took it the way I meant it.

I have a sister who lives in California, and she gives me the opportunity to see how the California branch of the family is doing when I visit her sometimes. Didn't have a chance to see her on the trip last week, though.

That's sad:(, but she obviously had a long life.

When I first starting reading the article, I thought it was going to be about animal abuse! :furious: That topic pisses me off so much!
People who abuse animals should be hung!!
Perhaps that's a bit extreme, but that's just my view.

Lord knows, congress will never pass the death penalty as being an option for animal abuse. . .but I'd be in favor of it if it was. :p

O.k., I'm a bit off topic huh? :uhh:

It's bad enough we kill people for killing people. I don't think there shold be a death penalty, although I think they deserve harsher punishments. As for death, well...that is Gods decision.

Yeah, this issue will always be controversial. We've talked this issue into the ground in my classes.

So, Marine you must agree with killing during a time of war correct? I'd think people who rape/kill are more deserving of the death penalty than people who are trying to defend their country. :uhh:
