I have a question for everyone:
What is it that you like about Shania. Here music? Her looks? The fact that she's Canadian? The fact that she's a woman?? I would just like to know. I like Shania obviously because of her music, but also because she's Canadian.

Shania is gorgeous but that isn't the only reason I like her. I like her becuse she is such a sweet and caring person. Her music is awesome. I really like Shania because she is down-to-earth. She's human just like us. I could go on & on. I like her so much...no...I love her!
I could write a book about why I like Shania... but to put it simply she is super talented and an all round great person. That is why I idolize her.

I admire Shania for many reasons. I think she is an outstanding example of what hard work and dedication can accomplish. She started out as a poor kid living in the Canadian outback. Who would have ever thought that she would be a star? She has come so far and even when times were tough she stood up and was strong. I also love her music. Whenever I feel down, listening "Come On Over" always helps me. Being a writer and working on my first novel is a scary experience. Sometimes I feel very discouraged, but I think about people that inspire me and Shania is one of them. She never gave up on her dream and it helps me to remember that I should never give up on mine http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif

Heather,
I like what you said. There are a lot of nice attributes about her. One thing I see is a phenomenal synergy between her playful creativeness, and her down to earth, calm seriousness about important human values; like making things better for kids who don't have a fair share of what they need, through no fault of their own. Besides enjoying her music, concerts and videos, maybe a lot of us resonate with the vibes she sends about starting life as an underdog, and finding some way to develop and release the most beautiful part of our spirit in a way that thrills others even more than it does ourself. That's enough to make your mind race, heart glow and hopes grow. One other thing I noticed, was the lilt to her voice, the way it goes up in pitch toward the end of a sentence, when no one else I know would do that. It might be just a regional dialect. Timmons is not too far from French speaking area east of Cochran. I went there one time, a bit past Lake Abitibi, and sudenly within just a few miles, no one would speak in English, only French. But I notice that Shania raises her voice like that at the end of a sentence when she is talking about her childhood, Kid's Cafe and things that she is deeply connected to emotionally. It seems like a mark of sincerity but also of vulnerability. Not too many people are willing to stick their necks out and take personal risks like that to try to help people. THAT, I think, might be the thing I like best about her. If I am right, she is willing to brave the insensitive put-downs of aggressive louts, and the cackles of callous gossip, to help people reach for what's most important and best in each of us.

I like Shania's music (lyrics, melodies, music production), her intelligence, her performances on TV, and the outfits she wears in concerts.

I admire Shania not only because she is extremely talened, and has worked to get where she is now, but because she is extrememly compassionate towards others. Like how she visited sick kids who are dying, and raising money for charities, etc. She is also seems to be a normal, down-to-earth person. She is very pretty and her music and singing just "ROCKS THIS COUNTRY"!!!

I like Shania because she's beautiful, energetic, creative, and I love her voice! She's generous, too. Her last CD had 16 songs on it... not the typical ten. Her videos are all great and her concerts are worth every penny. I also like the ciderella stary that goes along with her success.

The reason I like Shania is becouse of her
music and ofcourse her looks.
But the reason I like her SO much,is the fact that she managed to become the woman she is,despite the accsident with her parents and that she had to take care of her brothers and sisters.
Shania is a woman I really admire.

I love Shania because she's such a great person all together. She's done so much for this world and for the children in it. If only everyone could know that! She's also GORGEOUS and I wish I could grow up to look like her. It doesn't matter where she's from, as long as she's still alive, well, and being so nice. I love how she writes her songs w/ plenty of thought and care. She sings so sweet like an angel. I wish I could be like her in certain ways, yet nobody's "perfect". She's a great role model especially for girls my age. We need someone cool to look up to, not someone that's dating every guy in every boy band or has breast implants...don't get me wrong, Britney's cool. Anyways, Shania's just...she's just Shania http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif !)

ShaniaTL: I totally agree with you. When I started this topic 1 1/2 months ago, I wasn't thinking too much about why I really liked her so much, just what other people had to say.
I love Shania for many of the same reasons as you. She has such a kind heart- donating the proceeds from God Bless the Child, and actually going to the shelters to spoon out the food. And yes, she is a beautiful song writer. All the songs that she writes, are wonderful, whether they're love songs, funny songs, dance-type songs, or dedicated songs (as in Black Eyes, Blue Tears). Af course, I agree with you. Shania is so beautiful. She is the most beautiful singer, actress, sports player- famous person out there!!! I wish I could look like her too. Well, this is my informal response here is an essay I wrote just for fun about why I like Shania:
Shania Twain Essay
There are so many things that I love about Shania. First of all, the music! It's amazing that she has some songs that can touch you so much that they make you cry, like Raining on Our Love. Others will pick you up when you're down because of their upbeat nature, or just because of their lyrics. An example of this could be Come On Over. That song has a special place in my heart, and whenever I hear it, I am always in a better mood after I have heard it. And then there are the classics and the ones that you love to sing along to, like Any Man of Mine, Man! I Feel Like a Woman and That Don't Impress Me Much. I also like the fact that Shania writes all her own music along with her husband. To be able to sing well, now that's one thing. But to be able to write your own lyrics and music, and then perform them well, that's amazing!
Now her performances: When Shania does live shows, even if she is in a horrible mood, she has to put on a great show. She always does that, and more! She is always full of energy; jumping, running and dancing around. And then she always brings some very lucky fans up on the stage to sing along with one of her songs. Not a lot of artists do that, and without always knowing it, she has probably made many fans' dreams come true. For the other fans who aren't quite so lucky to be able to sing with her, she always goes out and slaps high-fives with the fans who are close to the stage. And even after all this, Shania still realizes that not everyone has been able to experience seeing her up close yet. So after she sings I'm Outta Here!, she is carried around on her chariot, slapping high-fives with more fans. To top the whole experience off, she throws out a couple autographed denim jackets for some of the fans. Anyone who has gone to one of her concerts will say that it was wonderful, exciting, a pleasure to watch and energy filled.
Besides having great music talent and a lot of energy, Shania also has a HUGE heart. She contributes the proceeds from God Bless the Child to charities that help feed hungry children across North America. I think that doing this is really wonderful. But you know what? A lot of artists do that. But what Shania does that many others don't, is that she actually goes to the shelters to spoon out the food for the kids. Half of them probably don't know who she is, but she is doing a wonderful thing. She takes time out of her busy schedule to do something absolutely wonderful for some poor kids that she doesn't even know. But she does this partially, and maybe mostly, because she knows what it's like to be starving. As a kid, she often went to school with no breakfast, no lunch, and had boiled milk and bread for dinner. Shania is doing everything she can to make sure that other people don't have to go through the same kind of torture.

The fact that she is so down-to-earth and yet so very smart when she talks....She can be funny and joking but at the same time very intelligent. That is what I like. The fact that she writes her great music is always a good thing too....That voice.....There is only one with that voice....Shania

Just a few things about Shania. I know we all love her and think she is the geatest musician ever and has talents beyond belief but let's be realist about this issue. It is not really Shania who is making the opinions about releasing the singles, it is the record comany that does that. Shania just decides whether or not to back them up in the end and even then I imagine it is hard to turn down Mercury when they want to release a single. And lets get it straight, what are people in the record company out for? Well let me answer that, strictly money (that is how American comapnies opporate). As for Shania I think she just does what the record company tells her to do in order to be most profitable. The record company is trying to squeeze every penny they can out of this record because they know how the public have endorsed it. Now we all know Shania loves her job and that is what she is mainly in it for (money has always come second to Shania). As for the fans we all know that Shania loves them because in her own words that is what she mainly did the tour for. When she releases records I am sure that is somewhat for the fans but you have to think it ismainly the record comapny doing this. welp that's about it.

oh and one more thing I saw the essay posted and it was good. I just figured I would repost mine because I kind of like it about the concert I went to. Please bare with me if you have already read this.
As I sit there in my seat I close my eyes and try to key in on each conversation around me but find it is impossible. The only sound I can make out is a jumbled mass of words, laughter, and cheers like a wave crashing upon a shore; I feel a sense of overwhelming power inside me and everywhere around me. I open my eyes and yell at the top of my lungs but my sound is only absorbed into the crowd as if I was simply a particle of water dropped onto a sponge.
The sound builds and builds only getting stronger and stronger until instantly it is shut off as darkness fills the room. For a split second there is nothing, no sound, no light, only emptiness. Then all heads turn simultaneously as if being controlled by the awesome power of the beam of light that rips through the center of the stage. The silence is quickly interrupted as the sound of guitars and violins reverberate through the stadium. The beam of light is joined by hundreds of others in every color imaginable until finally fireworks explode through the air as the guitars blast and out walks Shania Twain, singer, songwriter, and superstar. Everyone rises and once again begins their loud cheers but this time they are no match for the incredible power of music blasting over the loud speakers. Shania’s voice carries over the room and puts a smile on every single face within sight. This is my place, my paradise, my passion, my concert, and my music!
By going to a live performance and seeing every single aspect of music at its finest performed live, right in front of me not only do I have a amazingly wonderful time but I also learn more about the art of music than any music class could ever teach me. Recently I was fortunate enough to attend the concert of my greatest inspiration in the music industry, Shania Twain. I felt so strongly about being in this concert because first of all Shania was there singing and second of all I was able to realize how great a performance can actually be.
As a musician her music is structured almost to perfection, her lyrics are used and arranged so perfectly that each song could be considered a piece of poetry, and the melodies she uses are powerful, fun, and original every single time. As an example the song “Home Ain’t Where His Heart Is (Anymore)” contains the structure, lyrics, and melody that, like many others she has created, are perfect. This song can be read like a book with chapters because of its obvious structure; there are varying melodies within that help magnify the unraveled story of a woman and a man that loved each other but now have broken apart. The chorus is planted into several melodies and countermelodies that are specifically layered to compound the effect of the song to its listener. As a brief note on lyrics let me quote a portion of the song to show just how poetic the lines of the song are as she uses several literary devices to create a poetic effect, “If foundations made of stone could turn to dust, Then the hardest hearts of steel could turn to rust.” Finally, the melody of this song sets the tone for the entire piece by using a slow and sympathetic sound throughout. In a lot of the songs I hear today I can barely understand what singers are saying but often their melodies and arrangement are so good that lyrics are not so important. This is simply not the case with any of Shania’s music because each of her songs has all three of these parts and all three are strong. It is no wonder why just hearing Shania’s music performed live in a concert and on stage was so amazing to me.
Just like a good song a good performance has several key features that make it great; the visual aspect, the performer/audience interaction, and of course the musicians and how they perform musically. The concert I saw had all of these aspects which made it more fantastic and entertaining than going to the circus while at the same time better than hearing the Atlanta Symphony perform at its finest. The lights and pyrotechnics used as visual effects worked in perfect harmony with the dance routines and displays put on by the musicians (who have all been a huge inspiration to me); even the people in the very back row awed in astonishment over how visually appealing this concert was. In between songs Shania called people up on stage and had them dance around with her and sing her songs. The whole night was filled with jokes. For quite awhile she was teasing everyone about the southern accent people have in Georgia and got everyone in the crowd involved; the audience felt as though they were actually part of the concert itself. Now imagine all this occurring amongst a group of musicians with more talent than can be described by words. The lead guitarist Brent Barcus was a show of his own as he astounded the audience with amazing guitar solos. The rest of the band performed so well that each player had their distinct personality and each one seemed to make their instrument harmoniously yell out to the crowd. Yes, this is the place I want to be where every aspect of a good performance is at its best.
As the concert closes to an end and the band takes a bow the audience is literally jumping out of their skin with fascination and admiration. Shania screams out “Thank you! I’ll be back” and leaves the platform as a puff of smoke consumes her. As I gaze down at the empty stage I realize that this is place I admire most. My place simply has it all, the people, the power, the laughter, the lights, the concert, the band, and finally the perfect music!

WOW!!! That is all I can say, wow! http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif I know how you feel. Isn't she just the sweetest?!? I couldn't live w/ out her.
Steph,
I love the name!! (It's mine too http://www.shania.net/shaniaforum/smile.gif ) I'm glad we feel the same, because she truly is everything and more. I am just so glad she's alive and that the people in Nashville gave her a chance. There was a night when I had been just completely bawling and bawling. I can't remember exactly why...oh yes, now I do. It was something my mom had said that had hurt. My sister said she'd take me out for some ice-cream since I felt so bad, and yes, my mom did appologize, but it still stuck. Anyways, while I was waiting for my sister, I turned on CMT. A video ended, and "Come On Over" came on. I was still crying, but by the time it had ended, I realized I had stopped. That was the exact time I realized how much Shania meant to me. Just watching her & everything helped me. When I found this out, it made me cry again because I knew I could actually love someone I didn't know that was so sweet and so comforting. I loved all of your essays, they are totally awesome and completely true. There's one thing I never mentioned about Shania that I truly love. It's that she is not afraid to be herself. People Magazine will name her worst dressed, but she goes out and keeps dressing the same. Some people call her ****ty, but she's not even close to that. She's absolutly hillarious and will crack jokes or say something funny and she won't even know it. I've never seen her be rude. There have been a lot of weirdo's out there that have tried to do things to her, but she just leaves them behind and moves on. She's so cool!
TL
Justin,
Thank you for posting your concert experience "again." I didn't see it before. That is an outstanding job of putting a peak human experience into words. Usually when I read anything, it is less than perfect communication and my mind gently adds, subtracts, modifies or goes on tangents. Your essay just sucked in all the energy of my attention like a black hole and made me one with your universe.
Congratulations!

Stephania5,
I enjoy and appreciate your posts a great deal. Since you're just over the border from me, and we've exchanged replies on varioius topics; I feel some extra kinship.
But I wonder if my brain got wound too tight and popped another thread in my head; and I have a couple loose ends that need connecting.
It looks like you posted this original topic as Stephania, then replied later as Stephania5.
Also, back in an earlier thread asking us about our gender and ages, your answer suggested (how can I put this delicately?) that you have a long life still ahead of you.
Your posts and replies, by contrast, display the elegance and skills of someone with a long and valuable life already behind you.
Can you help me out of my mental maze?
