I picked up the March issue of "Petersens 4Wheel & Off Road" 2 days ago, and theres a wheel testing article.
What they're doing is, taking a brand new Chevy 2500HD, a set of Mickey Thompson Classic II's (Cast aluminum), a set of U.S. Wheel White Tracker wheels (Steel) and last but not least, a set of Weld Racing Stone Crushers (Forged aluminum)
And they try each one (one wheel from each set) they have 3 tires on and one wheel without a tire.
And they drive around on it. First they try 'em on a deserted desert road (asphault) @ 10mph, and do a 3-point turn, then they go in the dirt, run over some rocks and so on.
I mean how cool is that? They get paid to take a brand new truck, new wheels and drive around on a bare rim. hah.
You'd have to pick up the magazine for the full article.
Maybe I'll just take a course in journalism and be a writer for Petersens :p
