Update from Nashville

Hi Everybody,

I just got back from Nashville and I have some news about the new CD.

As some of you may know, my mother, brother and his wife live in Nashville. My wife and I just got back from attending my niece's wedding. The groom has a friend that works at Mercury records. His name is Todd Fennell and he works on the production side of the business. I had spoken to him on the phone once, but was able to meet him in person at the wedding. Here is what I found out. (Forgive me if some of this is old news, but I just don't seem to have the time to check into the forums as odften as I would like anymore.):sad:

Shania's album is NOT ready yet. Mercury is expecting a release date in November for the holiday sales rush. The first single is due out in late August or early September. The album will be a two CD set!!:) and will have 24 or 25 songs. :) Shania has not been at the Mercury offices recently. I asked how many albums she was under contract to do. Todd said he wasn't sure but it was several more. I said that's good because we have been worried that she may retire. He said "So are we." I asked him how she could do that if she was under contract for more releases and he mentioned Maria Carie's release from her contract. I wouldn't read too much into this other than they know she is their bread and butter and don't want to lose her. I don't think he was implying that her retirement is eminent. For the life of me, I can't remeber if I asked him if a tour was planned. If I did ask, I don't remeber the answer. With 24 or 25 songs though, that would seem like enough for another tour.

On Monday following the wedding, I went to the Mercury offices and got a couple of pictures. I would like to have you see them, but am not sure how to go about it since I don't have a web site. One interesting thing about the reception area, there were NO pictures of Shania!! I asked the receptionist how come there were no Shania pictures and she said that they were in other parts of the office. Strange. There was a picture of Jamie O'Neal and Oh Brother Where Art Thou. I guess those were their most recent award winners so they were featured on the wall.

I hope this has been informative.

I sure wish Shania would have some contact with her fans BEFORE the single is released. That way I won't feel as if she is only appearing to promote her new music and not to be in touch with her fans. Anyone else feeling this way lately?

Interesting to read Elrich. It would be great if it did turn out to be a 2 CD set of all new songs. I would be very surprised if that was the case but it would certainly be an excellent way for Shania to surpass the achievements of COO :D

It would have to be 2 CDs for so many songs since most of her songs are 4 minutes long. (I am still digesting many of the other comments!)

Does that mean double the price??

Todd specifically said that you can only get 74 minutes worth of music on a CD. That's why it will be a two CD set. Don't know about the price.

Twain and Lange are still working on the album and should have enough material to release on one disc, what would normally be a double disc CD release. "I told Mutt, ‘Why don’t you fill up all 74 minutes of the CD for added value?’" That could amount to 20 some tracks on Twain’s fourth CD.
Luke Lewis only says one disc not two! :confused:

$$$$$$ I think double disc albums are usually $5-6 more. But because it's a new release, it will probably be cheaper than that!
But if Shania sells 500,000 units the first week, you have to multiply that by 2= 1 000 000 copies sold!!! Garth Brooks put out a double live album and ended up selling
7 million x 2= 14 million very quickly. :)
Shania could break a lot of records if the 2 disc album sells well!:D

Nobody knows, we'll all have to wait and see. :)

I remember Shania saying that they had so many great songs on COO, she just couldn't cut anymore off. So, that's why we had 16 tracks! :up:

This could be the same deal. She might have so many great songs, she doesn't want to cut any of them off.
Shania has been away for quite some time, so she's had plenty of time to write several songs. :)

Shania could break a lot of records if the 2 disc album sells well!:D If Shania put 148 minutes of new songs on 2 CDs and they charged $5-$6 more I don't see any problem .... on the other hand if they put 80 -100 minutes on a double CD and do this I believe there will be lots of adverse reaction to such a move, which could be viewed as a money-grubbing ploy by many.

Ummm...they might put 12-13 songs on each disc! Split it up that way. That's what usually happens.

I believe double CDs and box sets have an asterisk next to them, as far as sales records go. Since one purchase counts as a multiple, it gives the artist an unfair advantage. I believe single CDs like COO, which reach great sales heights, are always given more weight. Shania will easily surpass COO with a double, but it won't really count as much. She'll only need to sell 10 million, in reality. COO, a single CD, reaching 20 million is a much greater achievement.

But if Shania ends up selling 15 million( X 2= 30 million) of the double disc in the US...I think that would be an accomplishment. It could happen. :)

I would like to hear all new songs from Shania. It wouldn´t be nice if she´d had to cut off some songs in able to fit them into one cd. That way we´d miss out on some songs...:shocked:

Not all cds are flled up.... i've seen double cds with 22 or so songs on. how many songs depend on what the artist chooses.

What a bonus THAT would be! There could also be a new screen saver possibly also based on the first video-single! Lots of artists are including more than just audio songs on their cds these days!

I have her Man I Feel Like A Woman cd with video included as well as her Don't Be Stupid-dance mix cd with video included!

If this is true is could mean 12 tracks per cd (if they go with 24) and that some of the songs may be longer than what we have been used to with her, just what I wanted from Shania :D

Hmm.... That IS WEIRD Thea! And the cool part of the video on the cd is that it is the Dance mix version of DBS! (Not the Version from COO North America or COO International.)
It is still the same DBT video but some sequences that are not in the original video have been added in to accomodate the longer track length of DBS dance mix. They must have cut & spliced the extra scenes in for the dance mix version but it is cool!

I got the cd from ebay!

Hmm.... That IS WEIRD Thea! And the cool part of the video on the cd is that it is the Dance mix version of DBS! (Not the Version from COO North America or COO International.)
It is still the same DBT video but some sequences that are not in the original video have been added in to accomodate the longer track length of DBS dance mix. They must have cut & spliced the extra scenes in for the dance mix version but it is cool!

I got the cd from ebay!
