Memorial day is my favorite holiday. Along with July 4th. Heck, they are higher than Thanksgiving and/or X-Mas in mah book.

Because we've done more to celebrate.

Because we've done more to celebrate. Yeah .. for instance we had the Civil War - that is where Memorial Day got its beginning:

Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed on May 30,1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers.

Actually it was roughly 147 years ago. At least when it ended.

I guess some youngsters do not really comprehend time properly - they will learn as they age that 147 years is nothing in the continuum of time and that the Civil War is still with us here in the USA today and will be always - just like Pearl Harbor and the 9 11 01 tragedies in NYC, DC and a lonely field in PA.

I don't tend to do too much on any holiday but Memorial Day and Veterans Day are good days to reflect... and think about those who have fought to protect our freedom and way of life here in America.

Same here. I enjoyed the blue skys and worked on my truck in peace, and relaxed and was happy to be free. Or at least feel free.

I agree - it was a nice day to relax and reflect on our heritage and what is happening today in the world and with the war on terrorism.
