Ugh - First let me say I will never buy another Compaq. :scowl:
Ok - On to my problem ... this has happened 3 times today, I'm getting a fatal error OE 0028:C004D86F in VXD VFAT (01) 0000B897. I have no idea what that means. I called Compaq Support and since my computer is no longer under warranty, they want $59.95 to even help me, then the help they give might not even be what I need. :uhh:
Does ANYONE have any idea what is wrong w/ this piece of crap? Should I do the quick reinstall (which will take forever), toss it out the window or just bash it in w/ a sledge hammer? :furious:

It definitely doesnt sound well.. Incidentally I have a Compaq and you know that falls over every time I try and plug my webcam, scanner and keyboard in at the same time, lol.
Anyway, back to your problem.. What are you doing when this error comes up? Might give you some idea as to what's doing it? Have you added anything new to the machine recently? What version of Windows is it? All these things might give us a clue as to what's doing it because the Blue-Screen-Of-Death messages in the older Windows dont really tell you very much except where it was in memory when it crashed..
You could always try a System Restore back to when it last worked ok?

What are you doing when this error comes up?
Nothing that I don't normally do. I just get on AOL then open a couple IE pages. I don't use my AOL browser because it seems too small. I only look at websites through IE.

I haven't added anything new in a long time actually. I think the last think I downloaded was yahoo and that was 2 months ago.
What version of Windows is it?
2000
Oh Phil - When you get back online, add Johnson48Rulz to your AIM list. That's what I'll be on ... I'm not opening anything other than my AOL page and a couple IE windows for a while.

AOL installs itself all over the place so it could be something thats changed there thats caused your problem. Might be IE going nuts too, if you go to Add/Remove Programs and click Remove on MS Internet Explorer in the programs list you could try the repair function? Might fix it if its something relatively straightforward..
