Does anyone have a clue why this happens to all computers everytime you use them virtually?

(The guy from Comp USA who connected my high-speed cable the other day, when asked the question by moi said he had no clue but they all do - I thought a computer savvy guy like him could offer a clue - is this the universal response? No one has a clue about this?)

Carley Hey this is a serious thread - not a communication chat line!!

Ok - now that I got that off my chest - Vega put a comment out in one of the threads saying he would not be around for a few days - somethin about overhauling his junkie computer or being busy with finals at school or both - bottom line is he said he would be out-of-pocket for a a few days - maybe completely maybe he will check in occasionally - not sure how he phrased it - and don't recall which thread it was in - mebbe Shania pictureboards thread?? Don't remember - I remember seeing early yesterday morning - check all his posts in the the profile deal and it will probably be one of his last ones posted - I will try to sub for him in certain ways!:p :p :p :p

I don't know why. I have a PC and mine doesn't freeze much. Maybe you have a virus. A friend of mine's computer used to freeze when her computer had a virus. Do you have virus protection? As for my previous answer, I still stick with that too.:p

Maybe once every two months, maybe not even that. I'm not really sure what it could be then.

My girlfriend has a Mac and it's forever locking up on here and there isnt even much installed on it, so its not just PC's that are prone to playing up. Any machine is, particularly if its old and has had all sorts of software installed on it. The more you install the more likely one thing is to conflict with another and cause other things to go nuts at the same time, lol. But hey, thats computers for you. You can make them work better if you're careful about what you put on there and if you really know what you are doing but they will never be completely stable unless you stop installing things, lol.

My buddy has a mac and it freezes a lot too - I think Tupi is not telling us the whole story about her big macs.

This is not very heartening Phil - like I said mine froze at times from day one - it has lots of softwear from the factory and I have added a little myself - it is incredible that this has been a problem for years and no brilliant mind can solve the problem or mitigate - to keep the machine clean means you limit its use - it is like a Catch-22 situation all over again!

Makes you long for the days of typewriters and snailmail and in-person conversations!!

Seriously!

And it's very hard to take apart Mac's and install 'mod's on them.

Usually computers crash when someone is running too many programs at once, and using too much System Resources. Or, the OS (Operating System) is not capable...*cough* WinME *cough*

Yep, it's your email program or one of the files it uses that is most likely causing the freezing. Simple solution, dont get your email, lol :p

My computer has a really good reason: Because.

I get so sick of it!! Today it started "recovering orphaned files"??? Since when did files have parents in the first place?? :funny: Then when it was finished, and was turned on properly, it freezed before i could do anything, i turned it on again, then the wallpaper was gone  but that was just to click retrieve wallpaper or something like that. But when i tried to go online, he couldn't find the modem *sigh* so i turned it on AGAIN, and THEN it was normal. Until it freezed an hour later when it got too much to do. It's supposed to be a pretty good computer too! But it was put together by three different "computer geeks", so we'll get the smartest "geek" to make it normal again soon
arg.

Marika - I did do as you suggested and downloaded about 10 Windows XP updates and purged and reset my Graphics Preferences - Maximum disk space to use for online art on AOL email and IM to 50 megabytes. They claim this is a common cause of freezing. It were previously set at 20 megabytes.

It has been four hours and I have had no freeze ups or any problems since I purged the Graphics Preference and reset it for 50 megabytes and I have been in and out of email a dozen or more times without a hitch!

Thats why you shouldn't speak too soon, or you better learn to knock on wood...

I've learned to be very, very, careful with my wording now-a days...
