VERY UNDIVAESQUE Speaking of polite, we are most disappointed with Celine Dion, who thinks that a diva should be humbled by the gift of her talent and offer a kind word to fellow performers. Fresh off a ''Divas Las Vegas'' appearance, Dion was at FM radio station KISS 108's megaconcert on Saturday and was amazingly gracious and polite. You see, we still remember the year that dotty diva Mariah Carey attended the concert, wouldn't consent to being interviewed while standing on the grass, and had her bodyguards inform the media that we were not allowed to establish eye contact or attempt to take a picture of the singer. Dion, who performed at the concert some 10 years ago, returned Saturday for the station's 23d annual concert with minimal diva trappings. Yes, there was the private jet. Yes, there was the limo. And yes, her husband and manager, Rene Angelil, was in attendance. But that's about it. The duo arrived early to the venue - having left the baby with his nanny at the Providence Marriott, we kid you not - so Dion took in the end of No Doubt's set. While backstage, she posed for photos and signed autographs.
PARALLEL UNIVERSE Further proof that Celine Dion operates differently than other stars: Sometimes singers will sing along to prerecorded tracks of themselves while their bands play live. This is often the case at Super Bowl halftime shows and the like. It helps cover for bad acoustics and quick setup times. Dion, however, sang four songs live Saturday night, and her band played along to prerecorded tracks. Her band was lip-synching, if you will, but Dion was belting out the tunes.
