Well Mercury is owned by UMG (Universal Music Group) Nashville. Unless she is totally going to switch to say Captiol, or Reba McEntire's label "Starstruck", my guess is she will definitly stick within somewhere in the UMG family. And definitly the Nashville branch.
Her picture is on the front webpage banner of UMG along with Julianne Hough, Kristian Bush, Jennifer Nettles (Sugarland), Josh Turner and George Strait. It means she's kinda a big deal (which she is).
I personally believe she's there to stay..at least for awhile.
The thing I'm most surprised of.....is that the opinions of some fans have turned 180 degrees..
What happend to the "quality takes time", "fans of (....) had to wait a zillion years, the time we've been waiting is nothing", etc.

It's not that earlier we were not confused and were monthly updated, and not everything has been made in secrecy. And not that earlier there was no silence about new music and when and if...And not that she did not made some strange things earlier, and some stuff not connected to music. But then it was a virtue, today its an error, and against the fans. Meh!

Would someone with complete knowledge about Shania please explain the reasoning behind "personal" letters, blogs, appearances etc. - yet, music is a taboo subject for Shania... and seems like many fans here are also ready to unleash the wrath of God upon anyone who dares to bring up the question why Shania does or does not do something.
Universal Music Group is NOT going to give up the goose that lays gold eggs - they still have the old catalog to sell & make huge profits with very small expenses... as to my understanding, Shania didn't receive advances or get a salary - but gets a percentage/royalties.
Well, in 2002 switching management was something that could be announced publicly... - BUT, in 2010 - in the year of "Shania's Sweet Freedom" - it's GOOD NEWS that there's a complete information blackout not only on the management issue, but on music as well..?

I find reality TV boring, in fact very boring, the fame game has never impressed me, what did impress me was that great music Shania did, but Shania judging on some crap talent show "Does not impress me one bit"
I see so much negativity around this place. I feel something pretty positive about her leaving her old management. No reason to do that and not talk about it if done because of a retirement. I agree she's taking too long with an album, but I won't believe she is done until I hear that from her. We've been complaining about her hiding away when making music. Now she's a lot more present and yet we complain about what she's doing.

Shania never really has commented on music after her GH, which was when.....2005? And she was still married then. I agree I'm disappointed she hasn't commented on her music at all....oh wait, she has...in her letters.

I understood they had always travelled quite a bit... the hermit thing being a tabloid creation (that many fans seem to have bought as well) as they never made things that easy for celebrity reporters, so the gutter press in return make up a whole lotta BS.

So, very little actual FACTS either way on what the heck is going on with Shania.
In the very first post in this thread, I mentioned Shania NOT being with Qprime no longer, and concluded that she obviously doesn't need music management now... which many here have declared as GOOD NEWS.
I think there's more contradictions & confusion in Shania's actions in the last 12 months, than has been during her entire career.
- But hey, it's all entertainment now... maybe that IS a GOOD THING.
I sent a PM to MDM asking to them who is running the STOFC now, since QPrime is no more ST Management, and if Im right, they said they had a contract with them.

This whole idea that Shania was in a cage is nonsense. We all know UP! was recorded on the road, in the Carribean etc. We dont know enough to say that and it is very unfair to Mutt to say he was in some way holding Shania prisoner. And also degrading to Shania to suggest she was unable to make her own decisions, when we all know she is a very strong character and in control of everything. Im sure if she wanted she could have done whatever she liked, she chose to be like that. How do we know Shania wasnt the controlling one in the relationship and not Mutt? We dont see or hear about what Mutt does so we cant possibly comment. In fact I seem to remember hearing that Mutt wanted to go to the Champions League Final in Moscow with Bryan Adams and Shania not being happy about it...and he went anyway. So who is controllign who there? It was shortly after this that they split up. So I dont think we can comment in such a way, its not like we were a fly on their wall.
It comes down to consideration. Consideration of fans who have been loyal and caring and patient for many, many, many years. Shania would not have a career and the luxery of taking her vacations and extended time off if it were not for our money and loyality; so she show a hint of consideration.
