I'm afraid not. I would go to LA to see them performing with the Dixie Chicks next month if I could. Now could be one of the great concerts of all time! Oh well, at least they think they will produce a DVD of it.

CMA Awards Show Will Not Spotlight Hall of Fame Inductees
Future Hall of Fame Members to Be Announced Early Each Year

Breaking with a long tradition, the CMA Awards show will no longer recognize the new inductees into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Instead, the honorees -- who this year are Vince Gill, Mel Tillis and Ralph Emery -- will be formally inducted during invitation-only medallion ceremonies held at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum.

Officials of the Country Music Association say there are no plans to acknowledge the inductees during the Nov. 7 awards show telecast on ABC.

"We didn't feel like we have time to give [the inductees] justice on the awards show," said a spokesperson for the CMA, whose electors choose Hall of Fame members.

In years past, the ceremony in which medallions are awarded to new inductees was held in May of the year following the formal induction. The official induction into the Hall of Fame took place during the broadcast portion of the CMA Awards. Because of the separation from the show, this year's medallion event will be held Oct. 28.

In another wrinkle, new members to the Hall of Fame will be announced early each year, possibly in January, one source said. This will enable the induction ceremony to revert to May.

Alison Krauss, Jason Aldean and Kellie Pickler have been added to the list of performers at the 41st annual CMA Awards show on Nov. 7. Aldean and Pickler are each nominated for this year's Horizon Award. Additionally, Sheryl Crow, Blake Shelton and Gretchen Wilson have been added to the list of artists presenting awards during the ABC telecast from the Sommet Center in downtown Nashville. As previously announced, Sara Evans and LeAnn Rimes will host segments during the show, and CMA officials say additional segment hosts will be announced soon.

Matty, if you don't already know, the Eagles have a new double CD coming out on October 30th called "Long Road Out Of Eden". If you pre-order it now, you get a free MP3 of the song How Long as is shown on the site. There are 20 new songs. I am definitely getting this! There must be Wal-Marts in England, but here is the on-line site:

Tuesday, I got the new Eagles Double CD "Long Road Out Of Eden". I must say that this is the first time in a long while that I have listened to a new album and liked all of the songs. Granted, I don't know them very well yet, but for a strong Eagle fan like myself, it's been a long time baby!

If you are familiar with the Eagles, then this new CD is what they are, and I love it. Disc 1 is I would say a little pop with country flare. Disc 2 is more rock oriented the Eagles way of doing it. The title song "Long Road Out Of Eden" is just that, long that is.: It runs 10:15 minutes, but it is classic Eagles and great as far as I'm concerned. The only song that may be familiar to a lot of you is "No More Cloudy Days" which has had a lot of airplay in recent months. But all the rest of the songs are new and what you would expect from Don, Glen, Joe Walsh, and Timothy Schmit.

While reading the credits, something caught my attention. At the bottom it says "mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering, Portland, ME. Of course being from my home area helps me remember things like that. So, my hunch was that I had seen his name on one of Shania's albums. So, after looking around, sure enough there it was. On her "UP" CD booklet on the back inside page, six paragraphs down is the following: "Album pre-mastering and single version of 'I'm Gonna Getcha Good' mastered by Bob Ludwig at Gateway Mastering Studio, Portland, ME". So, I thought how about that!

Anyway, I don't care if it sells 10 Million or 10 Thousand, I like it a lot. It's been 28 years since the last Eagles studio album, so maybe Shania isn't so slow afterall.

CMA's Top Award an All-Male Affair
By JOHN GEROME – 5 hours ago

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — If the Country Music Association was going to set up a special dressing room for its entertainer of the year nominees, it would do well to put in a couple of leather couches, a box of cigars, ESPN on the tube and a sign on the door proclaiming, "Men Only."

All five nominees — seven if you count Rascal Flatts as three instead of one — are men. It was the same last year — and the year before that, and the year before that. One has to go all the way back to 2001, when the Dixie Chicks were nominated, to find a woman on the list.

By at least one measure, country fans aren't pleased. A national survey conducted recently by Country Music Television found that 74 percent of respondents thought women should have been included in this year's entertainer category, with Carrie Underwood and Faith Hill the two favorites.

"What it's saying to me is that in the mind of the country music audience, the definition of what they feel is entertainer of the year has changed pretty dramatically over the last couple of years," said Jay Frank, CMT's senior vice president of music strategy.

Entertainer of the year is the CMA's top award and is influenced by tour success as well as by album sales, hit songs and other achievements. The awards will be handed out Wednesday night in Nashville and broadcast live by ABC.

Most years the nominees are veteran acts, or at least established stars who've paid their dues. This year's nominees are Kenny Chesney, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, George Strait and Keith Urban — the same lineup as last year when Chesney won, except that Brooks & Dunn were in the mix instead of Strait.

Chesney also won the award in 2004, while Urban took it in 2005. Strait won in 1989 and '90.

Scott Stem, the CMA's director of media relations, said voters put a lot of weight on concert ticket sales, and for the past several years male artists have outsold female artists.

"The only exception was the amazing Tim McGraw/Faith Hill tour of the past two years," Stem said. "We may never know why these two deserving artists didn't receive entertainer nominations, but one guess is that voters may have been confused on how to nominate them appropriately since it was a co-headlining tour."

The absence of women may be more glaring this year because another key category, album of the year, also is without a single female artist.

Lon Helton, editor and publisher of the trade publication Country Aircheck, said it's ridiculous to suggest discrimination as the reason more women aren't nominated.

Rather, he thinks the nominees are a reflection of the industry, which he believes tilted toward male stars after a strong run by females in the '90s with Hill, Shania Twain, Reba McEntire, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood and others.

"The country music audience used to be split 51 to 49 female to male, and now it's skewing about 57 percent female. There's a theory that women really like to see male artists," Helton said.

A number of women have won the CMA's highest honor over the years, including the Dixie Chicks, Twain, McEntire, Barbara Mandrell, Dolly Parton and Loretta Lynn.

Hill, who's been nominated for entertainer once, in 2000 when the Chicks won, and Underwood were obvious choices this year.

Hill and McGraw co-headlined one of the top-grossing concert tours of the year. Her 2005 album "Fireflies" reconnected her with country radio in a big way, and she released a greatest hits collection last month that debuted at No. 3. She's also been singing the opening theme to NBC's "Sunday Night Football" this season.

Meanwhile, Underwood's 2005 debut "Some Hearts" sold more than 6 million copies, a phenomenal number for any artists let alone a new one, and her follow up, "Carnival Ride," was No. 1 last week on both the pop and country charts, selling more than 500,000 in its first week — one of the year's best debuts. Though the former "American Idol" champ is not headlining her own tour yet, she's clearly one of the year's most visible country performers.

If the CMA and the overall industry have a bias, said Wade Jessen, director of country charts at Billboard magazine, it's against new artists — not women.

"I don't think country radio, and as an extension Nashville as a music center and the CMA as an awarding body, has ever been accused of being ahead of the curve or even up with it in the newcomer category," Jessen said.

But the CMA has gone against the grain before. Garth Brooks won the Horizon award for newcomers in 1990, then won entertainer of the year in 1991. Similarly, the Dixie Chicks won the Horizon in 1998 and entertainer in 2000.

Jessen said someone will always be unhappy with the CMA's choices because there are more artists than there are nominations and awards to go around. He said he would hate to see political correctness mandate that a certain number of women or new artists or independent labels be represented in the nominating categories.

"The top vote-getters are the top vote-getters," Jessen said. "If you look at it too critically, you're always going to find flaws in a number of these categories."

wow carrie underwood is really taking the country music scene by storm...its crazy how fast that happened. no wonder why faith feels slightly threatened. she shouldn't feel that way ...

but I agree with the above statement, i think women should have been included in the category

I watched the first hour because there was nothing else on that interested me. Then on hour two, I checked Bionic Woman a little here and there. At ten, I don't CSI NY for anything, but I managed to get all of the winners and checked them off in my TV Guide.

Funny, TV Guide made their picks in this week's mag. They only got two out of five right. For Male Vocalist, they were expecting Strait to get it, but it was Brad Paisley. I kind of like Brad, and a lot more than Strait. For Female Vocalist the picked Underwood. No surprise there, she didn't really have much competition considering the others have not had much success this year in comparison. They also got Single of the Year right as well with Before He Cheats. That to me was a no-brainer. For Album of the Year, they picked Brad, so would I, but it went to Strait. Finally for EOTY they picked Brad, but Chesney got it. I like Kenny sometimes, but I don't get him getting this award so much.

As far as the rest goes this is my take. Horizon Award? I know you all think Swift is the next Faith Hill, but to me she has a wimpy voice and I don't know, for some reason she just doesn't do anything for me, sorry. My favorite of the Horizon nominees was Jason Aldean. I didn't know what the song was, but it rocked. It had some real gut music.

Vocal Group? Rascal Flatts is okay. I thought the duet with Jamie Fox; was kind of nice. I really enjoyed Alison's number.

Vocal Duo? I am so glad for Sugarland. Nettles has one the nicest and most powerful voices in country music. I love how she gets that southern drawl in her singing.

Song of The Year? It always amazes me how Strait gets song of the year for one I've never heard in my life. More power to him I guess. In my opinion, Carrie "got cheated".

Musical Event? It sucks, but then it didn't surprise me either. Reba and Kelly Clarkson should have won it. When you look at the quality of all of the nominees songs, it's easy to see which one was the best, but the "good ole' boys are back again.

Video of the year? I think that was the right one. I give Brad credit for his videos. He always seems to come up with unique ones like Shania does. This was no exception. It is a riot.

Musician of the Year? I don't know that much about it, but I thought it was good.

Steve

^^Did you get to see the Eagles? They were great!

I agree that Reba/Kelly should've won but I heard Tracy Lawrence was crying he was so happy and this was his first award so I guess it's good he won.

I was jumping out of my seat for Carrie, Brad, and Sugarland.

I think Taylor shows a lot of promise. I mean she's only 17. She doesn't have a strong voice but that's not always a negative. Shania's not a power singer but I love her. lol

I think Kellie Pickler was so sweet last night! She was the 1st one to jump out of her seat and applaud for Taylor Swift when Taylor won the Horizon Award. And I was crying when she was crying while she was singing "I wonder".
