A Merry (Timmins) Christmas
As Winter sets it's icy grip on the City of Timmins, the Northern Folk who live here take great civic pride in making EVERY street in this far northern Town an adventure and a feast for your eyes.
From the Town that calls it's self a City and the City with a heart of Gold.... Merry Christmas fellow Shania fans from Eilleen's home town.

Modest Wooden houses, very similar to that Shania grew up in on Bannerman in Timmins often have some of the prettiest displays, but some of the more modern brick houses are themself a picture, and that is before you hang the Christmas lights on them....

Oh you are all most welcome. The thing is that even the smaller houses, the 90 plus year old wooden homes, this one very similar to Eilleen's first Timmins home in Bannerman are so proud to hang out the Christmas lights and often outshine the bigger brick buildings in the up market areas....
Does this melt your heart or what....?
MERRY CHRISTMAS SUPER SHANIA FANS FROM HER HOMETOWN.

Not to diminish Timmins' efforts in any way, Christmas lights are a big tradition in all Canadian cities. Ottawa's are world famous. It helps of course that the National Capital Commission is paying for our public lights. When the designers of Euro Disney were looking for the world's best lighting experts, they hired Ottawa's to set up their lights.

True but you could not diminish Timmins efforts in any way Roger, as these lights are NOT laid on by the City. Though Timmins is a BLUE COLLAR town and many are poor by state capital standards the lights I have shown are located in the gardens of private houses and paid for by the owners out of there own pocket...
Now that is a heartwarming tale is it not... The City of Timmins lights sadly are so modest as to not get a showing on this thread, though I will take a few pictures of down town over the weekend if we get some decent snow fall. I know you all want to see what the STC looks like so standby....

The Timmins Transport have a bus parked right at the heart of the City and I hope to bring you a picture of that tommorow, for it is what Christmas is all about. It is so much more fun to give than receive....
This view shows Shania's touring Bus from the 1999 and 2004 World Concerts parked at the Shania Twain Centre in Timmins. Visitors get a one to one guided tour of it on request.
Merry Christmas everyone

Well I have the travel experience, but nah.... Eilleen and Mutt deserve there Christmas privicy and if Scotland is anything to go by, in Rural Areas we just do not have outside displays as no one ever comes near your house as you are so far away from the nearest town or village.
I do hope however that Eilleen or Mutt see these pages as I know that will have a big impact on there Christmas seeing the lights of Timmins from afar. I am sure Mutt has visited the area, but not in a long while so this is for them too from all Shania fans.

Tom, I really didn't want to make Timmins' Christmas lights seem poor. I just wanted to point out that Christmas lights on private houses are a strong tradition all over Canada.
This hard bitten town with a heart of gold is the crucible in which Shania's personality was formed. I get nostalgic for the STC when I see it decked out with Christmas trees. This is a home for Shania's fans. Thank you, Tom, for transmitting through your photos what it feels like to be in Timmins and at the Centre at this time of year.
Thank you for sharing these pictures, I like to see people decorate for Christmas, and I agree with you Tom, that seeing people decorate out of their own pocket is much more fulfilling to me then seeing city paid decorations. Though the city has pretty lights too.
